Sun Zhongtong
Sun Zhongtong (; born October 1944) is a retired general of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of the People's Republic of China. He served as vice director of the PLA General Political Department. Biography Born in Wendeng, Shandong, Sun entered the work force in September 1964, and joined the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in September 1965. He graduated from the CCP Central Party School, majoring in economics management. He enlisted in the army in January 1965, and served in various posts in the Liaoning Military District. He was elevated to vice director of the propaganda department of the PLA General Political Department in October 1990. In May 1993, he became editor-in-chief of the ''PLA Daily'' and president of the newspaper agency in September 1994. He became the assistant director of the General Political Department and a member of the CCP committee there in July 2001. The ''People's Liberation Army Daily'' (), or ''PLA Daily'' for short, is the official newspaper of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Institutionally, the ''PLA Daily'' is the mouthpiece of and speaks for the Central Military Commission, and in that capacity speaks on the part of the PLA itself. Its editorial line hews closely to that found in the Chinese Communist Party's own official newspaper, ''People's Daily''. The paper generally covers news stories relating to the PLA and other military affairs, while projecting the voice of the military into the public policy realm for primarily domestic consumption. Xu Caihou
Xu Caihou (; June 1943 – March 15, 2015) was a Chinese general in the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), the country's top military council. As Vice-chairman of the CMC, he was one of the top ranking officers of the People's Liberation Army. He also held a seat on the 25-member Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party between 2007 and 2012. Born to a working-class family in Liaoning province, Xu spent much of his earlier career in northeastern China. He moved to Beijing in 1990 to become political commissar of the 16th Group Army, later serving as editor of the PLA's flagship newspaper, the ''PLA Daily''. In 1996 Xu became political commissar of the Jinan Military Region. He became vice-chairman of the CMC in September 2004. He retired from office in March 2013.
