Sun Ripeng
Sun Ripeng (; born 25 January 1974 in Zhuanghe, Liaoning province) is a Chinese former track and field athlete who specialised in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He was the gold medallist at the 1994 Asian Games. His personal best of 8:10.46 minutes is the Chinese record for the steeplechase. He was a silver medallist at the 1993 East Asian Games and a 5000 metres bronze medallist at the Asian Games. He was a two-time winner of the National Games of China steeplechase, and also a two-time 5000 m national champion. Career Born in Zhuanghe in China's Liaoning Province, Sun established himself in the junior category on home turf in Beijing with a steeplechase gold medal at the 1990 Asian Junior Athletics Championships, becoming the tournament's inaugural winner for that event. He returned to defend his title two years later, but ended with bronze medals in both the steeplechase and 5000 metres. Athletics At The 1993 East Asian Games
At the 1993 East Asian Games, the athletics events were held at the Yuanshen Sports Centre Stadium in Shanghai, People's Republic of China. A total of 41 events were contested, of which 22 by male and 19 by female athletes. The competition featured only track and field events as there was no marathon race and the 20 km walk was held on the track. The host country, China, dominated the proceedings by winning the most gold medals and having the highest overall total. Chinese athletes won 29 of the 41 events, and won all of the women's competitions except two sprinting events. Japan was a clear second with a total of 29 medals, while South Korea was the third-most successful nation. Saif Saaeed Shaheen ( ar, سيف سعيد شاهين), formerly Stephen Cherono (born 15 October 1982), is a steeplechase runner. He was born in Keiyo, Kenya but now he represents Qatar. He currently holds the world record for 3000 metre steeplechase. He is a two time World Champion in the event. His older brother Abraham Cherono is also a steeplechase runner. He was the 1999 World Youth Champion in the steeplechase and set a world junior record two years later. He won the steeplechase at the 2002 Commonwealth Games for Kenya but switched allegiance to Qatar in 2003. That year he became world champion in the event, although a dispute with the Kenyan Athletics Federation meant he was ineligible to compete at the 2004 Summer Olympics. The China National Youth Games ( is a quadrennial multi-sport event for Chinese athletes under the age of twenty-one. It was first held in 1988 as the China City Games. The competition switched to be held the year before the Summer Olympics in the second edition in 1991. It has been held every four years since then and was given its current name from 2015 onwards, matching the nomenclature for the newly launched Youth Olympic Games.
