Summit Place Mall
Summit Place Mall, originally Pontiac Mall, was a shopping mall in Waterford Township, Michigan, United States. Opened in 1962 as the first enclosed mall in Michigan, it was built on a site. After expansions in 1987 and 1993, it comprised more than of retail space. At its peak, it had approximately 200 inline tenants and six anchor stores: Hudson's (later Marshall Field's, then Macy's), Sears, J. C. Penney, Montgomery Ward, Service Merchandise, and Kohl's. Following the opening of Great Lakes Crossing Outlets in nearby Auburn Hills, Michigan in 1998, Summit Place Mall lost many of its tenants to this newer mall, also losing Service Merchandise and Montgomery Ward to their respective bankruptcies in 1999 and 2000. In the 2000s, Summit Place became a dead mall as the majority of its stores closed. Kohl's closed in March 2009 and the mall concourses were closed off in September 2009. J.C. Sibley's Shoes
Sibley's Shoes was a retail footwear chain founded in 1920 in the city of Detroit, Michigan, United States. It was founded by Harry Rosenfeld. His sons Aaron Ross and Norman Rosenfeld worked for the company and later took over management and ownership upon Harry's death in 1973. In 1932, the flagship store was moved to the corner of Woodward Avenue and Montcalm; by 1952, Sibley's moved its corporate offices to the Fox Building and remained there until 1977. Meanwhile, the Sibley's chain grew to more than 38 stores at its peak, throughout Michigan and into Ohio. These stores, primarily located in shopping malls, included both Sibley's and Ms. Sibley's, the latter of which was a specialty shoe store for women. Casual Corner
Casual Corner was an American retail clothing chain founded in 1950. It operated stores under the names Casual Corner, Petite Sophisticate and August Max Woman brands, among others, with more than 525 stores at its peak. History In 1950, childhood friends Charles E. Carples, a Sage-Allen manager, and Brown-Thomson buyer Stanley W. Vogel each borrowed $5,000 to co-found Casual Corner, opening its first retail store that April Fools Day in West Hartford, Connecticut. The first shop was 750 square feet and used poles, beams, and nets from old tobacco barns, and employed the founders' spouses as staff. Casual Corner broke tradition with retail conventions of the day, allowing women to physically browse clothing and try on items in fitting rooms, rather than encasing apparel behind glass.
