Suming Rupi
Suming Rupi (born 17 July 1978) is a Taiwanese Indigenous musician, singer, songwriter and actor. He is a member of the "Lacienci" (拉千禧) age set (a form of social organization that is characteristic of 'Amis) of 'Atolan. Life and career Suming Rupi is a member of the 'Atolan community of the Amis (also known as "Pangcah") people, who live in Taitung and Hualien Counties. Rupi is his grandmother's given name. He often only goes by his given name "Suming". He is also known as Chiang Sheng-min, his Chinese name. He sees tradition as fashionable and stylish, and often appears in traditional 'Atolan 'Amis regalia on stage. Suming began his music career with the band Totem (圖騰樂團) in 2002. He served as one of the two vocalists and the main songwriter of the band. Totem won the first prize in the 7th Hohaiyan Rock Festival, which is held annually in Gongliao District, New Taipei. The Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and Awards () is a film festival and awards ceremony held annually in Taiwan. It was founded in 1962 by the Government Information Office of the Republic of China (ROC) in Taiwan. Amis People
The Amis ( ami, Amis, Ami, Pangcah; ), also known as the Pangcah, are an indigenous Austronesian ethnic group native to Taiwan. They speak the Amis language (; ), an Austronesian language, and are one of the sixteen officially recognized Taiwanese indigenous peoples. The traditional territory of the Amis includes the long, narrow valley between the Central Mountains and the Coastal Mountains (Huadong Valley), the Pacific coastal plain eastern to the Coastal Mountains and the Hengchun Peninsula. In 2014, the Amis numbered 200,604. This was approximately 37.1% of Taiwan's total indigenous population, making them the largest indigenous group. The Amis are primarily fishermen due to their coastal location. Tsai Ing-Wen
Tsai Ing-wen (; born 31 August 1956) is a Taiwanese politician serving as president of the Republic of China (Taiwan) since 2016. A member of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Tsai is the first female president of Taiwan. Dulan, Taiwan
Dulan or Tulan, transliterated from the Ami name A'tolan, Mandarin: 都蘭, pinyin: Dōulán) is a village in the Donghe Township of Taitung County, Taiwan. It is located between the Pacific Ocean and Dulan Mountain iDulan National Forest(都蘭林場) on Taiwan's southeast coast. Due to the rise in tourism, many Han people have moved to Dulan. However, the Dulan tribe still preserve many customs of the Ami. Amis Music Festival
The Amis Music Festival ( zh, t=阿米斯音樂節) is a cultural event held in Dulan Village, Taitung County. The event promotes music, arts and various cultures of the Taiwanese indigenous peoples, and is the first of its kind in Taiwan. History The very first Amis Music Festival was organized in 2013 by Suming Rupi, an indigenous singer-songwriter from the Pangcah (Amis) people, and the Dulan villagers in an effort to stimulate tribe-oriented economic development in their hometown. Suming derived inspiration for the event from performing at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK and the Festival of Pacific Arts.
