Ruby Myers
Ruby Myers (1907 – 10 October 1983), better known by her stage name Sulochana, was an Indian silent film actress of Jewish ancestry, from the community of Baghdadi Jews in India. In her heyday she was one of the highest paid actresses of her time, when she was paired with Dinshaw Bilimoria in Imperial Studios films. In the mid-1930 she opened Rubi Pics, a film production house. Myers was awarded the 1973 Dada Saheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema for lifetime achievement. She adopted a girl and named her Sarah Myers who after marriage was called Vijaylaxmi Shreshtha. Myers died in Mumbai in 1983. Film career Ruby Myers was born in 1907 in Pune. The self-named Sulochana was among the early Eurasian female stars of Indian Cinema. She was working as a telephone operator when she was approached by Mohan Bhavnani of Kohinoor Film Company to work in films. Sulochana Manandhar Dhital () (born 12 March 1955), professionally known as Sulochana, is a Nepali poet, writer, columnist and political activist. She writes poems in Nepali, Nepalbhasa and Chinese. She served as the Founding Chairman of the Mother Tongue Literature Department of Nepal Academy. Her works has been translated into multiple languages. Sulochana (Ramayana)
Sulochana () is a character featured in Hindu texts, Hindu literature. She is the daughter of the king of the Nāga, serpents, Shesha, and married to Meghanada (Indrajita), the eldest son of Ravana. Sulochana finds no mention in the Valmiki Ramayana, and appears in later versions of the epic. Literature In versions of the Ramayana, following the death of her husband, Sulochana urged her father-in-law, Ravana, to obtain the former's head from Rama, so that she could ritually perform the practice of Sati (practice), sati. Ravana informed her that she would have to obtain her departed husband's head on her own. Despite the fears of his ministers that Sulochana would be imprisoned by Rama, Ravana gave her leave to go in person to the battlefield to make the request. Sulochana Kadam (13 March 1933 – 10 December 2022), better known as Sulochana Chavan, was an Indian singer who was known for her lavanis in Marathi. Amongst various others, her famous lavanis included "Tuzhya Usala Laagal Kolha", "Padarawarti Jartaricha" both from film ''Malhari Martand'' (1965), "Solaawa Varees Dhokyacha", "Kasa Kay Patil Bara Hay Ka?" both from film ''Sawaal Majha Aika!'' Sulochana Latkar (born 30 July 1928) known by her screen name Sulochana, is a well-known actress of Marathi and Hindi cinema and has acted in 50 films in Marathi and around 250 films in Hindi. Sulochana Gadgil is an Indian meteorologist who retired as Professor from the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (CAOS) in Bangalore, India. She has studied the how and why of monsoon, including farming strategies to cope with rainfall variability and modeling ecological and evolutionary phenomena. Her research led to the discovery of a basic feature of the sub-seasonal variation in the monsoon cloud bands. She demonstrated that the monsoon is not a gigantic land-sea breeze but instead is a manifestation of the seasonal migration of a planetary scale system which is seen over non-monsoonal regions as well. Sulochana Brahaspati (born 1937, in Allahabad) is one of the noted vocalist of Hindustani classical music. In 1994, she was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the highest Indian recognition given to practicing artists, given by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance & Drama. Background She is a vocalist and an exponent of the Rampur-Sadarang Parampara. She learned music from Pandit Bholanath Bhat and Ustad Mushtaq Hussain Khan (d. 1964) of Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana.
