Antonio Leonviola
Antonio Leonviola, sometimes Leon Viola (1913–1995), was an Italian screenwriter and film director and co-founder of the "Libera Università del Cinema di Roma". Life and career Leonviola was born in 1913 in Montagnana as Antonio Leone Viola. In 1934, he won a gold medal at the Venice Film Festival for his silent film ''Fiera di tipi'', which he shot at a fair in Padua. He worked as war photographer during World War II, an experience that he reflected in a few short films including ''La battaglia dell'Amba Alagi'' and ''La marcia degli eroi''. After the war, Leonviola worked as a screenwriter in a number of adventure films and in 1942 directed his first feature film, ''Rita da Cascia''. After a long break, he returned as director in 1951 with a crime film, ''The Temptress (1952 film), The Temptress'', which was celebrated by critics. Gisella Sofio (19 February 1931 – 27 January 2017) was an Italian actress. Life and career Born in Milan, Sofio started her career at the age of 16 as a model. In 1951 she began her acting career in Mario Mattoli's film ''Accidents to the Taxes!!''. Since then she had a prolific career as an actress in theatres, movies, and television, working with directors like Michelangelo Antonioni, Luigi Comencini and Pupi Avati.
