Sue Ellen's
Sue Ellen's is a ladies bar or lesbian bar in Dallas, Texas' gayborhood of Oak Lawn. It first opened in Dallas on January 19, 1989, and moved to its current Throckmorton Street location in 2008. Sue Ellen's, a two-story nightclub, has a long history of being part of Dallas' queer nightlife, and is the state's oldest lesbian bar. It is named for Sue Ellen Ewing of ''Dallas'' fame and is considered the sister bar to nearby JR's. Sue Ellen Ewing is a fictional character and one of the female leads in the CBS primetime soap opera ''Dallas''. Sue Ellen was portrayed by Linda Gray and appeared on the show since its pilot episode, first broadcast on April 2, 1978. Lesbian Bar Project
The Lesbian Bar Project is a campaign created by Erica Rose and Elina Street to "celebrate, support, and preserve the remaining lesbian bars in the US." The project launched on October 28, 2020 with a PSA video narrated by Lea DeLaria that announced a 30-day fundraising campaign to support what were thought to be the last 15 lesbian bars left in the country, many of which were financially threatened by the COVID-19 pandemic.
