Sue Courtenay
Sue Courtenay (born c.1966) is a Belizean architect who was selected as the first female president of the Federation of Caribbean Associations of Architects and served from 2012 to 2014. She is an advocate of regional building standards and mutual recognition agreements for architects of the CARICOM alliance. Biography Courtenay was born in Sri Lanka and grew up Zambia, India, and the United Kingdom. She earned a degree in architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles and then went on to obtain a Master's degree in Business Administration at the Cave Hill, Saint Michael, Barbados, University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. Courtenay is a registered architect in Belize who has designed more than 70 buildings. Predominantly her designs are residential, but she has designed several commercial spaces for both public and private use. Her largest project was the Fort Point Pedestrian Walk in Belize City. The ''Nation Publishing Co. Limited'' is the publisher of the ''Nation Newspaper'', which is the dominant daily newspaper in the country of Barbados. Co-founded by Harold Hoyte and Fred Gollop, it was first established in 1973. the ''Daily Nation'' is printed daily in colour and distributed at many points around the country. ''The Guardian'' is a Belizean newspaper and the official print organ of the United Democratic Party. It is published on Thursdays and sells for BZ$1. UDP newspaper history before ''The Guardian'' The UDP's history in the newspaper business starts with the ''Beacon'', owned by Dean Lindo, which began printing in 1969 and was the main UDP newspaper (replacing '' The Reporter''). The ''Beacon'' survived until 1994, but the last years of the newspaper saw it become slowly eclipsed by the new ''People's Pulse'', headed first by Zelma Jex and later by William Ysaguirre and Ann-Marie Williams.
