Sudipto Chatterjee
Sudipto Chatterjee ( bn, সুদীপ্ত চট্টোপাধ্যায়; born: 26 July 1964) is an Indian performance scholar actor, playwright and poet of Bengali descent. Chatterjee's His solo performance ''Man of the Heart'', about Lalon Fakir, has received acclaim. Career Chatterjee has taught at New York University, Tufts University and University of California, Berkeley in the US, along with Loughborough University in the UK, and Jawaharlal Nehru University, Centre for Studies in the Social Sciences (Calcutta), National School of Drama and the Heritage Academy in India. A playwright or dramatist is a person who writes plays. Etymology The word "play" is from Middle English pleye, from Old English plæġ, pleġa, plæġa ("play, exercise; sport, game; drama, applause"). The word "wright" is an archaic English term for a craftsman or builder (as in a wheelwright or cartwright). The words combine to indicate a person who has "wrought" words, themes, and other elements into a dramatic form—a play. (The homophone with "write" is coincidental.) The first recorded use of the term "playwright" is from 1605, 73 years before the first written record of the term "dramatist".
