Sucker Money
''Sucker Money'' is a 1933 American Pre-Code film directed by Dorothy Davenport and Melville Shyer. The film is also known as ''Victims of the Beyond'' in the United Kingdom. Premise A phony spiritualist, Yomurda, uses fake seances and hypnotism to convince a banker's daughter to steal her father's money. He's exposed by a journalist, who turns him over to the police. Dorothy Davenport
Fannie Dorothy Davenport (March 13, 1895 – October 12, 1977) was an American actress, screenwriter, film director, and producer. Born into a family of film performers, Davenport had her own independent career before her marriage to the film actor and director Wallace Reid in 1913. Reid's star rose steadily, making feature films at a pace of one every seven weeks, until 1919 when a dose of morphine administered for an injury on location grew into an addiction. Reid died in January 1923 at the age of 31. Davenport took her own story as source material and co-produced ''Human Wreckage'' (1923), in which she was billed as "Mrs. Wallace Reid" and played the role of a drug addict's wife. She advertised the film in terms of a moral crusade. Davenport followed its success with other social-conscience films on other topics, ''Broken Laws'' (1924) and ''The Red Kimono'' (1925), with expensive litigation connected with the latter. Al Bridge
Alfred Morton Bridge (February 26, 1891 – December 27, 1957) was an American character actor who played mostly small roles in over 270 films between 1931 and 1954. Bridge's persona was an unpleasant, gravel-voiced man with an untidy moustache. Sometimes credited as Alan Bridge, and frequently not credited onscreen at all, he appeared in many westerns, especially in the Hopalong Cassidy series, where he played crooked sheriffs and henchmen. Life and career Bridge and his sister, who became actress Loie Bridge, were raised by their mother and stepfather, a Philadelphia butcher. Bridge went into vaudeville with relatives when he was still a teenager Bridge served in the American infantry during World War I. Mae Busch
Mae Busch (born Annie May Busch; 18 June 1891 – 20 April 1946) was an Australian-born actress who worked in both silent and sound films in early Hollywood. In the latter part of her career she appeared in many Laurel and Hardy comedies, frequently playing Hardy's shrewish wife. Early life and career Busch was born in Melbourne, Victoria to popular Australian vaudeville performers Elizabeth Maria Lay and Frederick William Busch. Her mother had been active since 1883 under the stage names Dora Devere and then Dora Busch; she toured India with Hudson's Surprise Party and toured New Zealand twice. They continued to tour with various companies with short breaks when their two children were born, Dorothy in 1889 (who lived for only four months) and Annie May in 1891.
