Sucker DJ's (I Will Survive)
"Sucker DJ" (also known as "Sucker DJ's (I Will Survive)", or "Sucker DJ (A Witch for Love)") is a song by American rapper Dimples D. It was written by Buddy Kaye, Crystal Smith, Hugo Montenegro and Marlon Williams and originally released in 1983 by Party Time Records, without any success in the charts. In 1990, Dutch DJ and producer Ben Liebrand remixed the song, including a sample of the theme tune of American sitcom ''I Dream of Jeannie'', written by Montenegro and Kaye. After its re-release, the song became a hit in Europe, where it reached the top 10 in the Netherlands and number 17 in the United Kingdom. In Australia and New Zealand, it reached numbers one and two, respectively; in the first country, Dimples D. became the first female hip hop musician to achieve this milestone. Crystal Smith, better known by her stage name Dimples D., is an American rapper who became a one-hit wonder in 1990. Sucker DJ Dimples D. was selected as the vocalist for a track by hip hop producer Marley Marl entitled " Sucker DJ's (I Will Survive)", released on Party Time Records in 1983. "Sucker D.J.'s" was written by Crystal Smith / Williams / Kaye / Montenegro. The song—an answer song to Run–D.M.C.'s " Sucker M.C.s (Krush-Groove 1)"—did not sell in quantity upon its first release, but Ben Liebrand reworked the song in 1990, including a sample of the theme song from the American sitcom '' I Dream of Jeannie''. A one-hit wonder or viral hit is any entity that achieves mainstream popularity, often for only one piece of work, and becomes known among the general public solely for that momentary success. The term is most commonly used in regard to music performers with only one hit single that overshadows their other work. Hugo Montenegro
Hugo Mario Montenegro (September 2, 1925 – February 6, 1981) was an American orchestra leader and composer of film soundtracks. His best-known work is interpretations of the music from Spaghetti Westerns, especially his cover version of Ennio Morricone's main theme from the 1966 film ''The Good, the Bad and the Ugly''. He composed the score for the 1969 Western ''Charro!'', which starred Elvis Presley. Biography Montenegro was born in New York City in 1925. He served in the U.S. Navy for two years, mostly as an arranger for the Newport Naval Base band in Newport, Rhode Island. After the war he attended Manhattan College while studying composition and leading his own band for school dances.
