Subrata (Hindi/ Sanskrit: सुव्रत, Odia: ସୁବ୍ରତ Bengali: সুব্রত), also Subroto (Read and written as by Bengalis and Javanese) or Subrata/Subrat/Shubrat/Subroto/Suvrat (Read and Written as by Odias), is a common name in India, especially among Oriya and Bengali people and in Indonesia especially among Javanese and Sundanese people. The name is also somewhat common in Indonesia because many people there have Sanskrit derived names there as well (in Java, ''Subroto'' is more common due to Javanese spelling structure of changing 'a' into an 'o'. Subrata Roy (born 10 June 1948) is an Indian businessman who founded Sahara India Pariwar in 1978. Sahara India Pariwar has operated a vast number of businesses such as Aamby Valley City, Sahara Movie Studios, Air Sahara, hockey sports, Filmy, among others. Subrata Mukherjee
Subrata Mukherjee (14 June 1946 – 4 November 2021) was an Indian politician who was cabinet minister of the government of West Bengal and sitting member of West Bengal Legislative Assembly. He was a member of All India Trinamool Congress. He was also the 35th Mayor of Kolkata from 2000 to 2005. Subrata Roy (Bengali: সুব্রত রায়) is an Indian-born American inventor, educator, and scientist known for his work in plasma-based flow control and plasma-based self-sterilizing technology. Subrata Mitra (12 October 1930 – 7 December 2001) was an Indian cinematographer. Acclaimed for his work in ''The Apu Trilogy'' (1955–1959), Mitra often is considered one of the greatest Indian cinematographers. Subrata Guha (31 January 1946 – 5 November 2003) was an Indian cricketer who played in four Test matches between 1967 and 1969. Guha was a medium-fast opening bowler. While he was a 20-year-old student at Calcutta University, he was largely responsible for inflicting the only defeat on the touring West Indians in 1966–67, when he took 4 for 64 and 7 for 49 for a combined Central and East Zones team. He was less successful on the subsequent tour of England, although he played in one of the Tests. He also had little success in three Tests against Australia in 1969–70. Munisuvrata () was the twentieth ''tirthankara'' of the present half time cycle (''avasarpini'') in Jain cosmology. He became a siddha, a liberated soul which has destroyed all of his karma.
