''Shakaya'' is the first studio album by the Australian duo of the same name, which was released in Australia on 18 October 2002 (see 2002 in music) by Columbia Records. It has a mix of pop and R&B tracks – mostly co-written by the duo, Simone Stacey and Naomi Wenitong, with their manager and producer, Reno Nicastro. The album debuted at number five on the Australian ARIA albums chart. Simone Stacey
Simone Angela Stacey (born November 1977) is an Australian soul and jazz singer-songwriter. She was a founding mainstay member of girl pop duo, Shakaya, along with Naomi Wenitong, from 2002 to 2006. Soon after Wenitong formed a hip-hop group, The Last Kinection, while Stacey took a hiatus from the music industry. In October 2011 Stacey was featured on The Last Kinection's single, "Are We There Yet?". In April 2013 she auditioned for ''Season 2'' of ''The Voice'' and was eliminated in "Episode 12: The Battles". Naomi Sky Wenitong (born 1982) is an Australian singer-songwriter based in Cairns, Queensland. Under the name, Nay, she is a member of hip hop group, The Last Kinection, alongside her older brother, Joel "Weno" Wenitong, and Jacob "DJ Jaytee" Turier. Previously Wenitong was a member of pop girl duo Shakaya (2001–2006) with Simone Stacey. Biography Naomi Sky Wenitong was born in 1982 in Cairns, Queensland to a large extended family belonging to the Kabi Kabi people of South East Queensland.
