Subedi ( ne, सुवेदी ) also referred to as Suberi ( dz, སུ་བེ་རི) in Bhutan, is one of the surnames of both Bramhin and Chhetri Varna in Nepal. They belong to the Bharadwaja Gotra. Subedi are mostly found in the hilly region of Nepal. They are also found in certain states of India like Sikkim, Assam region of West Bengal. Surya Prasad Subedi, OBE , KC , DCL is an international jurist. He is Professor of International Law at the University of Leeds, a member of the Institut de Droit International, and a Barrister in London. He also is a visiting professor on the international human rights law programme of the University of Oxford. He served as the United Nations special rapporteur for human rights in Cambodia for six years (2009-2015). He also served for five years, starting in 2010, on an advisory group on human rights to the British Foreign Secretary. In 2021, he was appointed legal procedural advisor to the World Conservation Congress of the International Union for Conservation of Nature held in Marseille, France. Abhi Subedi ( ne, अभि सुवेदी) is a Nepali poet, playwright, linguist, columnist, translator and critic, who writes in Nepali and English. Biography Abhi Subedi was born in Sabla village of Tehrathum district in eastern Nepal. He was the 21st child of his father and the 7th child of his mother. He recognized Bengali letters before Devnagari scripts after seeing his mother read Bengali epic Kashiram Das's Mahabharata. Education Abhi Subedi was offered a British Council scholarship to the University of Edinburgh in 1978 and completed his post-graduate degree. Jhakku Prasad Subedi ( ne, झक्कु प्रसाद सुवेदी) is a Nepalese politician, belonging to the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist). He is a teacher by profession.
