The Freeskiing World Tour is the largest and longest running competitive big mountain freeskiingFreeskiing tour in the history of the sport. Freeskiing
Freeskiing, or new school skiing, is a specific type of alpine skiing, which involves tricks, jumps, and terrain park features, such as rails, boxes, jibs, or other obstacles. This form of skiing resulted from the growth of snowboarding combined with the progression of freestyle skiing. "Newschoolers", or those who specifically ski in this style, as opposed to traditional freestylers, freeriders, big mountain skiers, and racers, are often found in terrain parks, which are designed specifically for tricks. Controversially, freestyle skiing is viewed as its own sport, but some view it as a subset of freeskiing. Some participants view it as a separate sport and do not refer to it as freestyle. The sport does not require participants to compete, but there are competitive events available at every level of the sport. Shane McConkey
Shane McConkey (December 30, 1969 – March 26, 2009) was a professional skier and BASE jumper. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and eventually based himself in Olympic Valley, California. Due to an itinerant childhood, he never identified with a single place, but he was said to come from Boulder, Colorado. It was from here that he started his professional skiing career. He did so after dropping out of the University of Colorado Boulder to pursue his dreams. Biography McConkey won numerous awards and competitions. He started as a competitive ski racer but moved on to be featured in a long line of extreme skiing movies. Chris Davenport
Chris Davenport (born January 4, 1971) is considered one of the world's most accomplished big-mountain skiers and mountaineers. A native of Aspen, Colorado, he has been called "one of North America's top 25 skiers by ''Skiing Magazine'' and is a "two-time extreme skiing world champion". Background A former alpine downhill racer at the Holderness School in New Hampshire and the University of Colorado Boulder, Davenport became involved in the big-mountain competition scene after graduation and went on to win the 1996 World Extreme Skiing Championships in Alaska. Seth Morrison (skier)
Seth Morrison is a professional skier. He has won many competitions and has appeared in a number of ski movies. He is best known for jumping off cliffs from extreme heights. Early life . He moved to Vail, Colorado in 1984 where he lived throughout Middle and High School. As a child he lived with his mom, a surgical nurse. Career During his years of skiing, Morrison competed on large mountains throughout the world, including doing back-flips off 100-foot cliffs. He has been interviewed on television several times. Ingrid Backstrom
Ingrid Backstrom (born August 21, 1978) is an internationally ranked professional skier from Seattle, Washington, United States. Backstrom graduated from Highline High School in Burien, Washington as a straight-A student, three-sport varsity athlete, and co-valedictorian. In 2000, Backstrom graduated from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington with a Bachelor of Arts in Geology. Her brother, Arne Backstrom, died in a skiing accident in 2010 at the age of 29. Guerlain Chicherit
Guerlain Chicherit (born 20 May 1978 in Paris) is a French rally and rallycross driver, and a professional skier who was four times world champion in freeriding (1999, 2002, 2006 and 2007). Biography He made his professional motorsport debut in the French Rally Cup driving a Citroën Saxo, and after a successful season in 2003 he became an official Citroën driver. In 2006, after winning the 2005 Dakar Challenge, he attended his first Dakar Rally, driving a BMW X3, and won a stage on his way to finishing 9th in the final classification. In the 2009 Dakar Rally he suffered an accident while fighting in the general classification, and finished 9th.
