Styrsöbolaget
Styrsöbolaget is a Swedish shipping line owned by Transdev Sverige AB. Styrsöbolaget operates maritime public transport in the Gothenburg archipelago and on the Göta älv river (on the "Älvsnabben" ferry line) on a commission from Västtrafik. In the southern archipelago the line also transports cargo. The passenger ships to the southern archipelago depart from Saltholmen, accessible by the Gothenburg tram line 11, and Ö-Snabben from the city centre. The cargo and car ships depart from Fiskebäck. Styrsöbolaget was founded in 1922 under the name Styrsö Nya Trafik AB. In the same year Styrsö Havsbad began to drive its own traffic. These companies merged in 1928 into a joint company that developed into Styrsö Trafik AB. Älvsnabben is a ferry line trafficking on the river Göta älv in Gothenburg, Sweden since the 1990s. Saltholmen, Gothenburg
Saltholmen is a peninsula on the southern shore of Älvsborgsfjorden in the district of Älvsborg in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was originally an island, but during the construction of the Gothenburg tram network a connection was made to the mainland. The connection has since been widened to accommodate car parking, making Saltholmen effectively a peninsula. History The company Aktiebolag Långedrag was founded in 1903, which was supposed to renovate the area from Långedrag to Saltholmen, including constructing a swimming area on Saltholmen. The tram network was extended to Saltholmen from 1906 to 1908. The original plans were not realised, but from 1906 to 1908 a warm bathing area, a cold bathing area and a restaurant were built. The latter was later replaced by a café in 1915, which is still in use. Saltholmen's parking area is located near the cold bathing area and the café. Transdev, formerly Veolia Transdev, is a French-based international private-sector company which operates public transport. It has operations in 17 countries and territories as of November 2020. The Västra Götaland Regional Council, or, Region Västra Götaland, or ''Västra Götalandsregionen'', is the devolved regional council of Västra Götaland County in Sweden. Gothenburg Tram
The Gothenburg tramway network ( sv, Göteborgs spÃ¥rvägar) is part of the public transport system organised by Göteborgs SpÃ¥rvägar, controlled by Västtrafik in the Swedish city of Gothenburg. The system's approximately of single track — making it the largest tram network in Northern Europe — is used by around 200 trams , which serve twelve day-time and five night-time lines with a combined line length of 190 km. These figures are expected to increase when the second stage of ''Kringen'' (short for ''Kollektivringen'', the public transport ring) is finished. Västtrafik
Västtrafik is the agency responsible for public transport services involving buses, ferries, trains, and the Gothenburg tram network in the county of Västra Götaland, Sweden (plus Kungsbacka Municipality). It was established with the Västra Götaland County on 1 January 1998. Until 31 December 2011 the ownership was shared equally between the Västra Götaland Regional Council and the 49 municipalities in the region, from 1 January 2012 the county council is the sole owner. The fleet consists of approximately 1900 vehicles. Operation Västtrafik is the brand name which is printed on tickets and vehicles. Västtrafik has the responsibility, but the actual operation of traffic, including employment of staff and ownership of vehicles is done by separate operators. The archipelago of Gothenburg ( sv, Göteborgs skärgård) comprises northern and southern archipelagoes. The southern archipelago is part of Gothenburg municipality located in the province of Västergötland while the northern archipelago is Öckerö municipality, located in the province of Bohuslän. Trafikverket has ferries from Lilla Varholmen to the northern archipelago. Some of the islands are interconnected by bridges. Göta älv
The Göta älv (; "River of (the) Geats") is a river that drains lake Vänern into the Kattegat, at the city of Gothenburg, on the western coast of Sweden. It was formed at the end of the last glaciation, as an outflow channel from the Baltic Ice Lake to the Atlantic Ocean and nowadays it has the largest drainage basin in Scandinavia. The Göta älv is located in Götaland, with the river itself being a site of early Geatish settlement. Its length is . The Bohus Fortress is located by the river at Kungälv.
