Brian Stynes
Brian Stynes (born 29 September 1971) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who played for the Dublin county team and now resides in Australia. He attended De La Salle College, Churchtown, Dublin. Playing career Australian rules football Stynes saw the success that his older brother Jim (who won the All-Ireland minor football championship with Dublin in 1984) had in Australian rules football's Australian Football League, and was recruited to his brother's club, Melbourne. He debuted in 1992 and at 190 cm was touted as a possible key position player, but his career in the AFL did not blossom, and he played only two games for no goals. In 1993, he played for Victorian Football Association club Port Melbourne, and was part of the club's losing 1993 Grand Final team. David Stynes (born 1976) is a former Gaelic footballer and Australian rules footballer. Playing career Australian rules football Stynes played for Ireland's winning team in the 2002 Australian Football International Cup in Melbourne. He was also selected for the All-Star Team, and returned with the team that reached the semi finals of the 2005 Australian Football International Cup. He won his second medal when Ireland won the 2011 Australian Football International Cup title. In 2011 David was appointed captain coach of the Moorabbin Kangaroos in the Southern Football League in Victoria. Jim Stynes
James Stynes OAM (23 April 196620 March 2012) was an Irish-born footballer who converted from Gaelic football to Australian rules football. Playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL), he went on to become one of the game's most prominent figures, breaking the record for most consecutive games of VFL/AFL football (244) and winning the sport's highest individual honour, the Brownlow Medal, in 1991. Off the field, he was a notable AFL administrator, philanthropist, charity worker and writer. Career During his 264-game career playing for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) between 1987 and 1998, Stynes became the first and only non-Australian-born VFL/AFL player to win the Brownlow Medal, which he achieved in 1991. In Dublin Stynes was born in Newbridge, County Kildare, and attended Newbridge College, where he first played Gaelic football and hurling. He moved to Dublin after World War I to find work. He was sworn into the Irish Republican Army, IRA in 1920 by Seán Lemass, joining "C" Company, 2nd battalion, Dublin brigade. He was stewarding in Croke Park on Bloody Sunday (1920), Bloody Sunday 1920, while carrying concealed guns for the IRA.
