Stutterer (film)
''Stutterer'' is a short drama film written and directed by Benjamin Cleary and produced by Serena Armitage and Shan Christopher Ogilvie. Plot Greenwood, a lonely typographer, makes a phone call to discuss a bill issue, but his stutter keeps him from getting his words out and he is hung up on. Later, in a conversation with his online girlfriend Ellie on Facebook, Ellie says she has a surprise for Greenwood and will tell him the next day. In public, Greenwood makes "snap judgement" observations about strangers he sees, clearly speaking the thoughts inside his head. While walking to his father's house, he practices in his head a quote he wants to speak to his father. While playing a game of Go with him, he's finally able to get the quote out, albeit slowly, and his father is pleased. Later that night, Ellie nervously messages Greenwood and lets him know she is in London for a week and wants to meet him in person. Benjamin Cleary
Benjamin Cleary is an Irish writer, director and producer from Dublin. He is best known for his short-film ''Stutterer (film), Stutterer'' that earned him an Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film at the 88th Academy Awards with producers Shan Christopher Ogilvie and Serena Armitage. Career Benjamin graduated from University College Dublin with BBLSDegree (Bachelor of Business & Legal Studies) in 2006. He then moved to England, where he completed his Screenwriting MA from London Film School. In 2015 he wrote, directed and edited his first short film ''Stutterer''. It stars Matthew Needham and Chloe Pirrie. The film has been accepted into 75 plus festivals at time of writing and has won over 20 awards including the London Critic's Circle award, an Irish Film and Television Award, the Audience Award and the Best International Short Film Award at the Kerry Film Festival. Stuttering
Stuttering, also known as stammering, is a speech disorder in which the flow of speech is disrupted by involuntary repetitions and prolongations of sounds, syllables, words, or phrases as well as involuntary silent pauses or blocks in which the person who stutters is unable to produce sounds. The London Film Critics' Circle is the name by which the Film Section of The Critics' Circle is known internationally. The word London was added because it was thought the term Critics' Circle Film Awards did not convey the full context of the awards' origins; the LFCC wished its annual Awards to be recognised on film advertising, especially in the United States, and in production notes. The Critics' Circle, founded in 1913, is an association for working British critics. Film critics first became eligible for membership of the Circle in 1926. The Film section now has more than 180 members drawn from publications, broadcast media and the internet throughout the United Kingdom. Irish Film & Television Academy
The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) is an all-Ireland organisation focused on film and television. It has about 1000 members, and is based in Dublin, with branches in London and Los Angeles. The IFTA now holds separate ceremonies for the IFTA Film & Drama Awards and IFTA Gala Television Awards; before 2015, they were one ceremony, known as the Irish Film & Television Awards.
