Stuntmen's Association Of Motion Pictures
The Stuntmen's Association of Motion Pictures (SAMP) is an honorary society of motion picture stunt coordinators, stuntmen, and second unit directors. It was founded in 1961 by Loren Janes, who worked as a stunt double for Steve McQueen, and Richard Geary, who doubled for Robert Vaughn. Membership is by “invitation only” and applicants must be a member of the Screen Actors Guild. It is an exclusively male group, which has named a number of honorary stuntwomen, although they are not listed as full members on the site. Stunt
A stunt is an unusual and difficult physical feat or an act requiring a special skill, performed for artistic purposes usually on television, theaters, or cinema. Stunts are a feature of many action films. Stunt Double
In filmmaking, a double is a person who substitutes FOR another actor such that the person's face is not shown. There are various terms associated with a double based on the specific body part or ability they serve as a double for, such as stunt double, "dance double", "butt double" and "hand double". Types of doubles Body double A body double or photography double is used in certain specific shots to replace the credited actor of a character. The body double's face is obscured to maintain the illusion that they are the same character; usually by shooting their body at an angle that leaves their face out (such as by showing the body double from the back) or in post-production by superimposing the original actor's face over the body double's. Second Unit Director
Second unit is a discrete team of filmmakers tasked with filming shots or sequences of a production, separate from the main or "first" unit. The second unit will often shoot simultaneously with the other unit or units, allowing the filming stage of production to be completed faster. Function The functions of the second unit vary, but typically the first unit films the key face-to-face drama between the principal actors. Loren Janes
Loren Janes (October 1, 1931 – June 24, 2017) was an American stuntman, notable for his work in Hollywood films, particularly those starring Steve McQueen, including ''Bullitt'', ''Nevada Smith'', and '' The Hunter''. He also co-founded the Stuntmen's Association of Motion Pictures in 1961. In 1956, he was the first civilian to enter the United States Olympic Trials for pentathlon; he also competed in 1964. He is a member of the Hollywood Stuntmen's Hall of Fame. He also has a footnote contribution to television, having played the role of Norman Chaney on the TV series ''L.A. Law''. In the first scene of the first episode, Chaney is found dead, though his name appears for years in the name of the law firm. Janes died at age 85 on June 24, 2017. The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) was an American labor union which represented over 100,000 film and television principal and background performers worldwide. On March 30, 2012, the union leadership announced that the SAG membership voted to merge with the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA) to create SAG-AFTRA. According to SAG's Mission Statement, the Guild sought to: negotiate and enforce collective bargaining agreements that establish equitable levels of compensation, benefits, and working conditions for its performers; collect compensation for exploitation of recorded performances by its members, and provide protection against unauthorized use of those performances; and preserve and expand work opportunities for its members. Barbara Stanwyck (; born Ruby Catherine Stevens; July 16, 1907 – January 20, 1990) was an American actress, model and dancer. From 1957 to 1962, she played Kate McCoy, a housewife, on the television series ''The Real McCoys''.
