Yarra Bend Park
Yarra Bend Park park in the Melbourne suburb of Kew. Located 4 km northeast of Melbourne's CBD, it is the largest area of natural bushland left in inner Melbourne. The most notable feature of the park is the Yarra River which flows for 12 km through it. The park hosts two golf courses, two historic boathouses, sheds and a number of cycle and walking trails. It receives approximately 1.5 million visitors per year. History The park's location at the joining of the Yarra River and Merri Creek has been an important site for the Wurundjeri Aboriginal people for a long time prior to the arrival of Europeans in Melbourne, which is commemorated by the Koori Garden on the western edge of the park, near Dights Falls. The park was officially reserved in 1877, and in 1929 it joined with Studley Park to the south to cover the whole of the area today. Lower Studley
Trowbridge ( ) is the county town of Wiltshire, England, on the River Biss in the west of the county. It is near the border with Somerset and lies southeast of Bath, 31 miles (49 km) southwest of Swindon and 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Bristol. The town had a population of 37,169 in 2021. Long a market town, the Kennet and Avon canal to the north of Trowbridge played an instrumental part in the town's development as it allowed coal to be transported from the Somerset Coalfield and so marked the advent of steam-powered manufacturing in woollen cloth mills. The town was the foremost producer of this mainstay of contemporary clothing and blankets in south west England in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, by which time it held the nickname "The Manchester of the West". Studley College
Studley Horticultural & Agricultural College for Women was a horticultural and agricultural college for women, near Studley in Warwickshire, England, which operated from 1898 until 1969. History The college was founded by Daisy Greville, Countess of Warwick. In 1898 she had founded Warwick Hostel in Reading to offer training to 'surplus women in the lighter branches of agriculture'. Warwick Hostel expanded and moved to Studley Castle in Warwickshire in 1903, becoming Studley Horticultural & Agricultural College for Women. An early student was Adela Pankhurst, and an early warden (1908-1914, 1918-1922) was Dr Lillias Hamilton. Students included Taki Handa, a student and instructor at Doshisha Women's College of Liberal Arts, Japan, who studied at Studley from 1906 to 1907 and designed a garden at Cowden Estate in Muckhart, Scotland. Studley, Kansas
Studley is an unincorporated community in Sheridan County, Kansas, United States, approximately 16 miles east of Hoxie along U.S. Route 24. It is on the eastern edge of the county in Valley Township, bordering Graham County. It was named after the Studley Royal Park, in England. History The Lincoln-Colorado Railway (which became part of the Union Pacific Railroad) came through the area in 1888 and opened a station. A post office was opened in Studley in 1889, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1994. Prior to 1894, the post office there was called Skelton. Abraham Pratt, an immigrant from England, is usually credited as the founder of Studley, and he built his Cottonwood Ranch to the west of the hamlet. With Pratt's English roots, the community was named after Studley Royal Park in England. Studley Royal Park including the ruins of Fountains Abbey is a designated World Heritage Site in North Yorkshire, England. Studley Park is a heritage-listed former defence establishment, grammar school and private residence and now clubhouse and golf course located at Camden Valley Way in the south-western Sydney suburb of Narellan in the Camden Council local government area of New South Wales, Australia.
