Students' Association Of The University Of Adelaide
The Students' Association of the University of Adelaide (SAUA) was a student representative body that existed at the University of Adelaide from 1973 until 2007. It was one of a number of student organisations that was affiliated to and funded by the Adelaide University Union through the government sanctioned 'Union Fee'. Prior to 1973, an SRC had represented student interests at the University. Former Presidents of the SRC include John Bannon, Gordon Bilney and Julia Gillard. The SAUA had representative members on many of the University's committees, gave comment in the media and made submissions to government inquiries about issues that affected students and young people in general. It also regularly ran events and awareness campaigns. The SAUA held annual elections to elect students to its various office-bearer positions as well as positions on the governing council. The University of Adelaide (informally Adelaide University) is a public research university located in Adelaide, South Australia. Established in 1874, it is the third-oldest university in Australia. The university's main campus is located on North Terrace in the Adelaide city centre, adjacent to the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, and the State Library of South Australia. The university has four campuses, three in South Australia: North Terrace campus in the city, Roseworthy campus at Roseworthy and Waite campus at Urrbrae, and one in Melbourne, Victoria. Anne McEwen (politician)
Anne McEwen (born 3 August 1954) is a former Australian politician who served as a Labor member of the Australian Senate for South Australia from 2005 to 2016. Early life McEwen was born in Adelaide, South Australia, and attended St Joseph's Primary School Hectorville, and St Aloysius College in the city. The daughter of a school teacher mother and an accountant father, after leaving school McEwen went on to work in clerical and administrative positions within both the private and public sectors. During the 1980s, McEwen undertook tertiary study as a mature age entry student at the University of Adelaide, graduating in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts degree with majors in politics and English literature. On Dit
''On Dit'' is a student newspaper funded by the Adelaide University Union and advertising revenue which is published fortnightly during semester time. Founded in 1932, it is the third oldest student newspaper in Australia along with ''Semper Floreat'' (which was first published in the same year as on Dit). The paper replaced its precursor the '' Varsity Ragge'' which ran from 1928 to 1931 when it ended because of what ''On Dit'' described in its first edition as 'student apathy'. The ''Varsity Ragge'' returned in 1934 for a single edition as a rival to ''On Dit.'' Name '' On-dit'' () is a term for hearsay; its most literal translation is " one says," but French uses '' on'' similarly to the generic use of "they" in English. Voluntary Student Unionism
Voluntary student unionism (VSU), as it is known in Australia, or voluntary student membership (VSM), as it is known in New Zealand, is a policy under which membership of – and payment of membership fees to – university student organisations is voluntary. Australia passed legislation enacting VSU in 2005, which came into force on 1 July 2006. Forms of VSU in Australia had been law in the state of Western Australia from 1994 until 2002, and in Victoria from 1994 to 2000. David Penberthy (born 1969, Adelaide, South Australia) is the former editor-in-chief of News Limited news site news.com.au and the former opinion website, ''The Punch''. He was editor of ''The Daily Telegraph'' in Sydney, Australia, from April 2005 until November 2008. Peter Bryden Malinauskas ( ; born 14 August 1980) is an Australian politician, serving as the 47th and current premier of South Australia since March 2022. Christopher Maurice Pyne (born 13 August 1967) is a retired Australian politician. As a member of the Liberal Party, he held several ministerial positions in the Howard, Abbott, Turnbull and Morrison governments, and served as a member of parliament (MP) for the division of Sturt from 1993 until his retirement in 2019.
