Stuart St. Clair
Stuart Roy St. Clair (born 21 November 1949) is an Australian former politician and lobbyist who was a member of the Australian House of Representatives for the Division of New England between 1998 and 2001, representing the Nationals. St. Clair served as the chief executive of the Australian Trucking Association between 2006 and 2015. Career Born in Sydney in 1949, St. Clair was educated at Sydney Church of England Grammar School (Shore) and spent his early life as a small businessman in the timber industry as a merchant, sawmiller and truck driver before becoming involved in politics in the 1980s. He was elected to Guyra Shire Council in 1987 and became mayor in 1991 until his election as the Member for New England. In 1998, St. Clair was preselected to succeed Ian Sinclair as the Nationals candidate for New England. Division Of New England
The Division of New England is an Australian electoral division in the state of New South Wales. History The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named after the New England region in northern New South Wales. From 1922 to 2001, New England was usually regarded as a comfortably safe seat for the National Party, formerly the Country Party. Only one Labor candidate has ever won the seat – Frank Foster at the 1906 election and again at the 1910 election, both times on small margins. Since then, the closest Labor has come to winning the seat was in the 1943 landslide, when the Country majority was pared back to an extremely marginal 1.1 percent. It was a marginal seat for most of the 1980s, but since the 1990s Labor has been lucky to get 40 percent of the two-party vote, and has frequently been pushed into third place. Margaret River (wine Region)
Margaret River is the major geographical indication wine region in southwest Western Australia, with 5,017 hectares under vine and 215 wineries as at 2012. Margaret River wine region is made up predominantly of boutique size wine producers; although winery operations range from the smallest crushing 3.5 tonne per year to the largest around 7000 tonne. The climate of Margaret River is more strongly maritime-influenced than any other major Australian region. It has the lowest mean annual temperature range, of only 7.6 °C, and as well as the most marked Mediterranean climate in terms of rainfall, with only 200 millimetres of the annual 1160 millimetres falling between October and April.
