Stuart Lyon Smith
Stuart Lyon Smith (May 7, 1938 – June 10, 2020) was a politician, psychiatrist, academic and public servant in Ontario, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1975 to 1982, and led the Ontario Liberal Party for most of this period. Background and early career Smith was born in Montreal, Quebec, the son of Nettie (Krainer) and Moe Samuel Smith, who ran a grocery store in the east-end of Montreal after his earlier garment-making business failed. His grandparents had been Jewish immigrants from Russia, Poland and Austria. He attended McGill University where he was elected president of the Students' Society of McGill University and earned the top award for debating. In 1957, he organized a student strike against the Maurice Duplessis government, which led to the provincial government launching a student loan programme to meet the students' demands. Stuart Saunders Smith
Stuart Saunders Smith (born 16 March 1948) is an American composer and percussionist. After having studied composition and music theory at three music institutions, Smith is currently based in Vermont, United States, with his wife Sylvia. He has produced almost 200 compositions, half of which were written for percussion instruments with a focus on the vibraphone. Life Smith was born in Portland, Maine. He started studying composition and percussion at six years old with Charles Newcomb, who was previously a vaudeville performer and exposed him to many musical styles e.g. Latin music, waltz, Dixieland. Smith has attributed a "physical" form of music composition to Newcomb. From the age of 13, Smith began performing publicly in clubs and dance venues. At the age of 18, Smith went on to Berklee School of Music where he furthered his studies in counterpoint, harmony and musical arrangements. Stuart Barry Smith (born 30 May 1956) is a British rock-blues guitarist and songwriter, who is best known for playing guitar in Sweet and Heaven & Earth. Early life Smith was born in York, England, the son of an RAF jet fighter pilot. At age seven and a half he was given a Spanish guitar by some RAF friends of his parents who were being transferred overseas. At his father's insistence he started classical guitar lessons and soon overtook his tutor. He studied classical guitar style until the age of 14 which is when he was introduced to rock & roll after seeing a Deep Purple concert. Although he excelled at playing guitar, he always considered it a hobby as his ambition was to follow in his father's footsteps and become a jet fighter pilot. These hopes were dashed at 17 years old after discovering he was red/green color blind. Major General Stuart Lyle Smith, (born 1 November 1963) is a retired senior officer of the Australian Army. He commanded the 1st Division from October 2012 until November 2015, when he was appointed Deputy Chief of Joint Operations. Early life Smith was born in Sydney, New South Wales, on 1 November 1963 and educated at St Paul's College in Adelaide. His father, Bernard Lyle Smith, was a soldier in the Australian Army. In March 1969, Bernard, then an infantry sergeant in the 5th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, was killed by a mine detonation during his second tour of Vietnam. Military career Smith graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon, in 1984. He was appointed Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, in December 2001 and led the battalion on peacekeeping duties in Timor Leste in 2003. Stuart Campbell Smith (19 September 1868 – date of death unknown) was an Irish first-class cricketer. Smith was born at Rathmines in Dublin in August 1868. A high scoring batsman in club cricket for Leinster, Smith first appeared for Ireland in a minor match against I Zingari at Dublin in 1891 (four years earlier he had played for the Gentlemen of Ireland against the Gentlemen of Canada). He continued to appear regularly for Ireland in minor cricket from 1891–1908. He made his debut in first-class cricket for Ireland at the age of 40, against the touring South Africans at Dublin.
