Stuart Pyke
Stuart Pyke (born 8 July 1961) is a British-born sports journalist and broadcaster. Stuart was born in St Helens, Lancashire, and is married to Christine. He has two children; Daniel and Rachael and two stepdaughters Emma and Victoria. He is now most well known for his darts and rugby league commentary on Sky Sports and rugby league commentary on BBC Radio Five Live. He also writes for the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Express and the website of darts equipment manufacturer, Unicorn. Early career Stuart started commentating on sport back in 1984, when he joined Piccadilly Radio in Manchester, after a four-year grounding on local newspapers. He commentated on Oldham Athletic's football matches during their most successful era, when they reached the League Cup Final and won promotion to the Premier League. St Helens () is a town in Merseyside, England, with a population of 102,629. Sid Waddell
Sid Waddell (10 August 1940 – 11 August 2012) was an English sports commentator and television personality. He was nicknamed the 'Voice of Darts' due to his fame as a darts commentator, and worked for Granada, Yorkshire, BBC and Sky Sports. Due to his joke telling skills he was also nicknamed the Thief of Bad Gags, firstly by Dave Lanning. He was nominated for two prestigious awards for his work, and published several books. Early life The son of a Northumberland miner, he attended King Edward VI School, Morpeth, and he went on to obtain a scholarship to St John's College, Cambridge, where he graduated with an upper second degree in Modern History. At Cambridge, Waddell played rugby for St John's, and the Cambridge University LX Club, the rugby second team. Injury brought him to darts and he started the inter-college darts competition. Challenge is a British free-to-air television channel owned by Sky, a division of Comcast. The channel mostly transmits game shows from the UK and around the world, with some original productions. Nuts TV
Nuts TV was a British television channel related to '' Nuts'' magazine. Nuts TV began broadcasting on Freeview channel 42 on 12 September 2007, and launched on Sky Digital on 21 January 2008. A 1-hour timeshift channel, Nuts TV +1 launched on 20 October 2008. Nuts TV was launched by the magazine's owner IPC Media and Turner Broadcasting, which are both parts of the Time Warner media empire. The service was produced by the ETV media group, with advertising sales handled by Turner. On 28 October 2008, Turner Broadcasting announced that Nuts TV was to be taken off Freeview in early 2009 and replaced with CNN International, but will carry on as an internet channel. US Open (darts)
The US Open was a United States darts tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), which launched in May 2007. It replaced the World Series of Darts which ran for one year and was cancelled as a result of poor television ratings on ESPN. In 2007 and 2008 the tournament was held at the Mohegan Sun Casino Resort in Connecticut – which was also the venue used for the World Series of Darts. The tournament moved to Atlanta, Georgia for the 2009 event. In 2009 and 2010 the event became Players Championship events as part of the PDC Pro Tour. Phil Taylor won the first two events, but opted not to take part in the 2009 version which Dennis Priestley won. Taylor came back in 2010 and beat Denis Ovens in the final. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) is a professional darts organisation in the United Kingdom, established in 1992 when a group of leading players split from the British Darts Organisation (BDO) to form what was initially called the World Darts Council (WDC). Sports promoter Eddie Hearn is the PDC chairman.
