Stuart Goldsmith
Stuart Goldsmith (born 1977) is an English actor, stand-up comedian and former street performer. He has presented the '' Comedian's Comedian'' podcast since 2012. Career Goldsmith grew up in Bristol and trained at Circomedia circus school. He was a member of the Playbox Theatre Company youth theatre group in Warwick, and worked as a court jester at Warwick Castle. He began in street theatre as half of the comedy double act "Kiosk of Champions", with fellow stand-up Richard Sandling, where he "walked the tightrope eating a packet of crisps". Under the name "Beautiful Stu", he came second in the Street Performance World Championship in 2008. On his street theatre work, he has said "If you can draw in the crowd at 9.45am in Covent Garden it teaches you to be funny." Glastonbury Festival
Glastonbury Festival (formally Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts and known colloquially as Glasto) is a five-day festival of contemporary performing arts that takes place in Pilton, Somerset, England. In addition to contemporary music, the festival hosts dance, comedy, theatre, circus, cabaret, and other arts. Leading pop and rock artists have headlined, alongside thousands of others appearing on smaller stages and performance areas. Films and albums have been recorded at the festival, and it receives extensive television and newspaper coverage. So You Think You're Funny? (SYTYF) is an annual stand-up comedy competition for new acts. The competition began in 1988 in the United Kingdom. The finals are held every August at The Gilded Balloon during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Past winners include Aisling Bea, Dylan Moran, Lee Mack, Peter Kay and David O'Doherty. History ''So You Think You're Funny'' was the idea of Karen Koren, Artistic Director of The Gilded Balloon, in order to discover new comic talent. "The dog ate my homework" (or "My dog ate my homework") is an English expression which carries the suggestion of being a common, poorly fabricated excuse made by schoolchildren to explain their failure to turn in an assignment on time. The phrase is referenced, even beyond the educational context, as a sarcastic rejoinder to any similarly glib or otherwise insufficient or implausible explanation for a failure in any context. The claim of a dog eating one's homework is inherently suspect since it is both impossible for a teacher to disprove and conveniently absolves the student who gives that excuse of any blame. Alan Davies
Alan Roger Davies (; born 6 March 1966) is an English stand-up comedian, writer, actor and TV presenter. He is best known for his portrayal of the title role in the BBC mystery drama series ''Jonathan Creek'' (1997–2016) and as the only permanent panellist on the BBC panel show '' QI'' since its premiere in 2003, outlasting its original host Stephen Fry. Early life Davies was born in Loughton, Essex, and spent his childhood years in Chingford. When Davies was six his mother died from leukaemia and he was raised by his father. ''Show Me the Funny'' is a British reality show in which a group of ten comedians of varying experience visit ten different cities around the UK, performing tasks that are somehow meant to equip them with local knowledge to work into five-minute-long new live routines, which they then showcase in front of a live audience. At the end of each show, one contestant was voted off by the judging panel of Alan Davies, Kate Copstick and a different guest judge in each city, with a live final at the Hammersmith Apollo on 25 August 2011. The NATYS: New Acts of The Year Showcase, previously known as The Hackney Empire New Act of the Year, is an annual industry showcase that promotes new waves of emerging Comedy and Variety acts. It ran at the Hackney Empire Theatre from 1988 until 2010. Since then it has toured round London theatres and performance spaces, playing the Barbican Theatre, Stratford Circus, Bloomsbury Theatre, Leicester Square Theatre and The Bernie Grant Arts Centre.
