Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic
The Stu Sells 1824 Halifax Classic is an annual bonspiel on the men's World Curling Tour. It is held annually in November at the Halifax Curling Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia (the club was founded in 1824). It has been held since 2018. The event is part of the "Stu Sells Series" of curling events (along with the Stu Sells Oakville Tankard, and the Stu Sells Toronto Tankard), sponsored by the Stu Sells Realty Team. Team Glenn Howard won both the 2018 and 2019 events. Glenn Howard himself was away coaching the Scottish women's team at the 2018 European Curling Championships, so his son, Scott skipped the team to the inaugural championship in 2018. Team Brad Gushue won the 2020 event, which only consisted of teams from Atlantic Canada due to travel restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ryan McNeil Lamswood (born March 19, 2000) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently skips his own team on the World Curling Tour. Career McNeil Lamswood competed in five Canadian Junior Curling Championships in his junior career in 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. His best result came in 2020 playing third for Daniel Bruce with Joel Krats at second and Nathan King at lead. The team finished the round robin and championship pool with an 8–2 record, which qualified them for the playoffs. They defeated Rylan Kleiter of Saskatchewan in the semifinal before coming up short to Jacques Gauthier's Manitoba rink in the final. Kendal Thompson (born May 14, 1992) is an American football wide receiver who is currently a free agent. He played quarterback at Oklahoma and Utah before transitioning to wide receiver in preparation for the National Football League (NFL). Stuart Thompson (born September 26, 1992 in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian curler. He currently skips his own team on the World Curling Tour. Career Juniors As a junior curler, Thompson won three Nova Scotia provincial titles. The first came in 2011, playing second for his brother Kendal's team. The team represented Nova Scotia at the 2011 Canadian Junior Curling Championships, where the team would just miss the playoffs, finishing with a 7-5 record. With the elder Kendal graduating from the junior ranks, Stuart formed his own junior team for the next season with himself skipping, teammates Scott Babin, Alex MacNeil and Paul Weingartshofer. Paul Flemming
Paul Flemming (born October 8, 1968, in Halifax, Nova Scotia) is a Canadian curler. He currently skips his own team out of Halifax. Curling career Flemming's junior team was successful yet failed to ever win the Nova Scotia Junior Men's Championship, losing in the finals four times. In 1987, the team of Paul Flemming, Mike Mawhinney, Glen MacLeod, and Chris Oxner represented Nova Scotia at the Canada Winter Games in Sydney, Nova Scotia. The team earned an undefeated record in the round robin, including a victory over Ontario's Wayne Middaugh. In the semi-finals of the playoffs Flemming's team beat Saskatchewan to earn a spot in the gold medal match. Jamie Murphy (born 13 April 1981 in Saint John, New Brunswick) is a Canadian curler from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. He is a former skip, and played at his first Brier in 2012. Career Jamie Murphy, originally from Quispamsis, is a former junior curler, representing New Brunswick at the Canadian Junior Championships in 2001 and 2002. Murphy's team had a notable 2010 season, losing in the semifinal of the Nova Scotia Men's Provincial Championship that year. Brett Philip Gallant (born February 18, 1990 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island) is a Canadian curler from Calgary. He currently plays second for the Brendan Bottcher rink. Mark Nichols, ONL (born January 1, 1980) is a Canadian curler from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. He currently plays third for the Brad Gushue rink. Nichols is a former Olympic champion curler, having played third for Team Canada at the 2006 Winter Olympics, where the team won a gold medal. He also won a World Championship with Gushue in 2017. Timothy March (born April 28, 1987) is a Canadian curler from Scarborough, Ontario. He currently plays lead on Team Glenn Howard. Career Youth March skipped his high school team from Sir Oliver Mowat Collegiate Institute to a provincial Schoolboy championship in 2005. Men's March played third on the Annandale Country Club team that were runners up at the 2010 The Dominion Curling Club Championship. The team had won the provincial curling club championship that year. March joined the Mark Kean rink in 2010, playing lead on the team.
