Ancell Stronach
Ancell Stronach (1901-1981) was a Scottish artist born in Dundee. Stronach was a member of the Royal Scottish Academy, elected in June 1934. He was winner of the Royal Scottish Academy ‘Guthrie Award’ in April 1927. Stronach was initially a student and later became Professor of Mural Painting at the Glasgow School of Art. A painter of portraits and figure subjects, among them ‘The Annunciation’, which draws on Domenico Ghirlandaio's fresco at the church of Santa Maria Novella in Florence, Stronach was strongly influenced by Sandro Botticelli, early Italian fresco painters and the Pre-Raphaelites, though his commitment to mural painting and stained glass design is also evident throughout his work. Belinda Caroline Stronach (Born May 2, 1966) is a Canadian businesswoman, philanthropist and a former Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of Canada from 2004 to 2008. David Stronach
David Brian Stronach (10 June 1931 – 27 June 2020) was a British archaeologist of ancient Iran and Iraq. He was an emeritus professor at the University of California, Berkeley. Stronach was an expert on the city of Pasargadae. He was educated at Gordonstoun and St John's College, Cambridge, from which he obtained a Master of Arts in 1958. In the 1960s and 1970s he was director of the British Institute of Persian Studies in Tehran. In the 1990s, he excavated several parts of Nineveh. His scholarship earned him several honours and awards, including the invitation to deliver endowed lectures at Harvard and Columbia. He was also the recipient of the 2004 Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) Gold Medal for "Distinguished Archaeological Achievement". Captain (then Chief Officer) George Preston Stronach GC (14 April 1912 – 12 December 1999) of the Merchant navy was awarded the George Cross for the heroism he displayed in a rescue at sea in Tripoli Harbour on 19 March 1943. Notice of his award appeared in the London Gazette on 23 November 1943. 19 March 1943 On 19 March 1943, Captain Duncan MacKellar's merchant vessel, the SS ''Ocean Voyager'', while in Tripoli Harbour was attacked by German Ju 88 aircraft equipped with Motobomba FFF torpedoes. The ship's large consignment of petrol and ammunition caught fire. As the captain had died in the attack, Stronach took command of the stricken vessel after being briefly knocked out by the explosions. Henry Donald Stronach (27 January 1865 – 12 April 1932) was a New Zealand cricketer. He played six first-class matches for Otago between the 1892–93 and 1894–95 seasons.
