Streitraum
' (Conflict Room) is a series of public panel discussions held at the Schaubühne in Berlin since January 2000. Each season focuses on a different theme from the areas of politics and society. In moderated discussions held every four to six weeks before an audience of international guests, invited experts discuss topics from the areas of politics, culture, technology, media, and the human science, human and natural sciences. The series has been organised and moderated by Carolin Emcke since 2004. Emcke states at the opening of each event that ''Streitraum'' is not a forum for arguments and conflict but rather an opportunity to watch people think. Each session ends with questions from the audience. Jason Farago of BBC Culture has regarded ''Streitraum'' as "an intelligent and aggressive public lecture series". Carolin Emcke
Carolin Emcke (born 18 August 1967) is a German author and journalist who worked for ''Der Spiegel'' from 1998 to 2006, often writing from areas of conflicts. From 2007 to 2014, she worked as an international reporter for ''Die Zeit''. Her book ''Echoes of Violence – Letters from a War Reporter'' was published in 2007 at Princeton University Press. In 2008, she published ''Stumme Gewalt'' ("Mute force"), in 2013 ''How We Desire'' (German: ''Wie wir begehren''), in 2016 ''Against Hate'' (German: ''Gegen den Hass''), and in 2019 ''Yes means yes and...'' (''Ja heißt ja und...''). Alice Bota
Alice Bota (born 15 December 1979) is a German journalist, presently working for the weekly ''Die Zeit'', and a book author. Born in Poland, she studied in both Germany and Poland and focuses on topics of Eastern Europe. Career Born in Krapkowice, Poland, Bota grew up in Upper Silesia. Her family emigrated to Germany in 1988 and settled first in Hamburg. She received her Abitur in 1999 from the gymnasium in Pinneberg. She studied German literature, political science and sociology at the University of Kiel, and won a scholarship in 2001 to further study International Relations at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz (Theatre on Lehniner Square) is a famous theatre in the Wilmersdorf district of Berlin, located on the Kurfürstendamm boulevard. It is a conversion of the ''Universum'' cinema, built according to plans designed by Erich Mendelsohn in 1928. History The cinema was the centrepiece of the wider ''WOGA'' housing complex, designed by Mendelsohn in a New Objectivity-styled urban development ensemble, with a shopping walkway, apartment blocks, lawns, and a tennis court in the back. It possibly was the first Modernist cinema built in the world, as opposed to the Moorish, Egyptian, and baroque styles that predominated. Mendelsohn wrote a short text on his cinema, declaring 'no Baroque palaces for Buster Keaton'. The cinema would become very influential on Streamline Moderne cinema design in the 1930s. Alain Badiou
Alain Badiou (; ; born 17 January 1937) is a French philosopher, formerly chair of Philosophy at the École normale supérieure (ENS) and founder of the faculty of Philosophy of the Université de Paris VIII with Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault and Jean-François Lyotard. Franziska Katharina Brantner (born 24 August 1979) is a German politician of the Green Party who has been serving as a member of the German Parliament since 2013. Pro Asyl
PRO ASYL is Germany's largest pro immigration advocacy organization. Founded in 1986 by protestant pastor , Catholic priest Herbert Leuninger and others, the organization has over 18.000 members and an annual budget of more than (as of 2014). Najem Wali ( ar, نجم والي; born 1956) is an Iraqi novelist and journalist, based in Germany. Life Born in Amarah, Wali fled Iraq in 1980 after the outbreak of the Iran–Iraq War. He lives in Hamburg. Wali has published seven books. He is a correspondent for ''Al Hayat'' and has written in '' Süddeutsche Zeitung'', '' Die Zeit'', '' Neue Zürcher Zeitung'', and elsewhere. Terézia Mora
Terézia Mora (; born 5 February 1971) is a Hungarian writer, screenwriter and translator. Early life and education Terézia Mora was born in Sopron, Hungary, to a family with German roots and grew up bilingual. She moved to Germany after the political changes in Hungary in 1990 in order to study Hungarian studies and drama at the Humboldt University in Berlin. Subsequently she trained as a screenwriter at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin. Eva Meckbach
Eva Meckbach (born 26 January 1981) is a German actress. Early life Meckbach was born in Seeheim-Jugenheim and grew up in Heidenheim an der Brenz.
