''Strawberry Shortcake Meets the Berrykins'' is a 1985 American animated television special that premiered on March 29, 1985. This is the third and final Strawberry Shortcake television special from Nelvana and the last one to feature the American Greetings character until DIC revived the franchise for a new generation in 2003. Unlike the previous two specials, they were distributed by LBS Communications. However, the third special wasn't, instead being distributed in syndication. In 1985, the special gained popularity in the United Kingdom when it was used as a theatrical featurette alongside the 1985 film ''The Care Bears Movie'', premiering the same day that the special premiered, introducing the Strawberry Shortcake franchise to a British public who at the time were largely unaware of it. Peter Sauder
Peter Sauder is a Canadian film and TV writer, television producer and animator best known for his contributions to Nelvana franchises such as ''Care Bears'' (whose three movies he wrote), ''Babar'', ''Strawberry Shortcake'' and '' Droids''. Peter, who is originally from Toronto, wrote the first ever story for another hit Nelvana series, ''Franklin''. He is sometimes credited as Pete Sauder. Sauder also served as head writer for the first season (1983–84) of DiC's ''Inspector Gadget'' (the first season was co-produced with Nelvana), as well as Disney Channel/ CBC's live-action series ''The Edison Twins''. The Lexington Broadcast Services Company (first known as Lexington Broadcast Services and later known as LBS Communications) was a television production and syndication company formed on November 15, 1976, by advertising pioneer Henry Siegel, who, according to ''Advertising Age'', was "the man who built Lexington Broadcast Services into the nation's largest barter syndicator, and thus defined that segment of the TV ad business." In the early 1980s, there were six animated television specials produced featuring Strawberry Shortcake and related characters. The first three specials were produced by Robert L. Rosen and Romeo Muller, who also wrote the specials. The first and third specials were animated by Fred Wolf Films, Murakami-Wolf-Swenson and Toei Animation, Toei Doga, while the second was animated by Perpetual Motion Pictures in New York.
