Stranger In The Crowd
"Stranger in the Crowd" is a song written for Elvis Presley by Winfield Scott for Elvis' 1970 album That's The Way It Is. Scott had previously co-written with Otis Blackwell a number of other songs for Elvis, including the hits "Return to Sender" and others. The song features an extended guitar solo by lead guitarist James Burton. A Live version was released on disc three of the special edition version of the aforementioned album. Winfield Scott (songwriter)
Winfield Scott (November 27, 1920 – October 26, 2015), also known as Robie Kirk, was an American songwriter and singer. He wrote or co-wrote the hit songs "Tweedle Dee" for LaVern Baker, and he was a co-writer with Otis Blackwell of " Return to Sender" for Elvis Presley. "Return to Sender", written for the Presley film ''Girls! Girls! Girls!'', was a U.K. No.1 single and peaked at No.2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Scott was born in Bloomfield, New Jersey. In the 1950s, he was a member of a vocal group, The Cues. Scott was a longtime collaborator of Otis Blackwell and together they were hired to write a song for the Elvis Presley film ''Roustabout''. While the film was released in 1964, the song "I'm a Roustabout" was not used, producer Hal Wallis instead preferring "Roustabout", written by Bill Giant, Bernie Baum and Florence Kaye, as the title song. ''That's the Way It Is'' is the twelfth studio album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley, released on RCA Records, LSP 4445, in November 1970. It consists of eight studio tracks recorded at RCA Studio B in Nashville, and four live in-concert tracks recorded at The International Hotel in Las Vegas. It accompanied the theatrical release of the documentary film '' Elvis: That's the Way It Is'', although it is not generally considered a soundtrack album. The album peaked at number 21 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and at number eight on the country chart. It was certified Gold on June 28, 1973, by the Recording Industry Association of America and up-graded to Platinum, for sales of a million copies on March 8, 2018. Otis Blackwell (February 16, 1931 – May 6, 2002) was an American songwriter whose work influenced rock and roll. His compositions include "Fever" (recorded by Little Willie John), "Great Balls of Fire" and " Breathless" (recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis), "Don't Be Cruel", " All Shook Up" and " Return to Sender" (with Winfield Scott; recorded by Elvis Presley), and " Handy Man" (recorded by Jimmy Jones). Biography Blackwell was born in Brooklyn, New York. He learned to play the piano as a child and grew up listening to both R&B and country music. James Edward Burton (born August 21, 1939, in Dubberly, Louisiana) is an American guitarist.
