''Strange – A Black and White Mode by Anton Corbijn'' is the second music video compilation by Depeche Mode, featuring the first five Depeche Mode videos directed by Anton Corbijn, released in 1988. Corbijn shot the entire video album in Super-8. The five videos are mostly in black and white, except for some random megaphones that were colored red. There are the three main singles for ''Music for the Masses'', the final ''Black Celebration'' single "A Question of Time", and "Pimpf", the instrumental closer to ''Music for the Masses''. The "Pimpf" video is currently exclusive to "Strange". Synthpop
Synth-pop (short for synthesizer pop; also called techno-pop; ) is a subgenre of new wave music that first became prominent in the late 1970s and features the synthesizer as the dominant musical instrument. It was prefigured in the 1960s and early 1970s by the use of synthesizers in progressive rock, electronic, art rock, disco, and particularly the Krautrock of bands like Kraftwerk. It arose as a distinct genre in Japan and the United Kingdom in the post-punk era as part of the new wave movement of the late 1970s to the mid-1980s. Electronic musical synthesizers that could be used practically in a recording studio became available in the mid-1960s, and the mid-1970s saw the rise of electronic art musicians. Black Celebration
''Black Celebration'' is the fifth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 17 March 1986 by Mute Records. The album further cemented the darkening sound created by Alan Wilder, which the band later used for their subsequent albums ''Music for the Masses'', '' Violator'', and ''Songs of Faith and Devotion''. ''Black Celebration'' reached number four on the UK Albums Chart, and has been cited as one of the most influential albums of the 1980s. To promote the album, the band embarked on the Black Celebration Tour. Three years after its release, '' Spin'' ranked it at number 15 on its "25 Greatest Albums of All Time" list. Depeche Mode are an English electronic music band formed in Basildon, Essex, in 1980. The band currently consists of Dave Gahan (lead vocals and co-songwriting) and Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, co-lead vocals and main songwriting). Depeche Mode, originally formed by the lineup of Gahan, Gore, Andy Fletcher (musician), Andy Fletcher and Vince Clarke, released their debut album ''Speak & Spell (album), Speak & Spell'' in 1981, bringing the band onto the British New wave music, new wave scene. "Never Let Me Down Again" is a song by English electronic music band Depeche Mode. It was released as the second single from their sixth studio album, ''Music for the Masses'' (1987), on 24 August 1987. It reached No. 22 in the UK, No. 2 in West Germany, and the top-10 in several other European countries such as Sweden and Switzerland. The cover art features fragments of a Soviet map of Russia and Europe, with different fragments used for the different editions of the single. Composition Former member Alan Wilder and the other members of the band considered the track an "obvious single" with much potential. They developed it throughout so that dramatic-type elements such as the Led Zeppelin-influenced drum patterns and Martin Gore's distinctive guitar riffs sound in the forefront. "Strangelove" is a song by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 27 April 1987 as the lead single from their sixth studio album, ''Music for the Masses'' (1987). It reached number 16 on the UK Singles Chart, number two in West Germany and South Africa, and the top 10 in several other countries, including Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland. In the United States, it reached number 76 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and was the first of nine number ones on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart, where it stayed for three weeks at the top. The original single, though successful, did not seem to fit with ''Music for the Masses''s darker sound, so Daniel Miller remixed the track for subsequent inclusion on the album. A Question Of Time
"A Question of Time" is Depeche Mode's seventeenth UK single, released on 11 August 1986, following the similarly titled "A Question of Lust" single. The 7" remix of "A Question of Time" runs at a slightly faster tempo and pitch than the original ''Black Celebration'' album version. A version of the remix with an even faster tempo appeared on ''The Singles 86–98''. There is no new track for a B-side (the first Depeche Mode single, other than the Double A-Side "Blasphemous Rumours / Somebody" without one), but instead includes a remix of "Black Celebration" and various live tracks. The "New Town Remix" directly segues into the "Live Remix" on the limited 12" single. The music video for "A Question of Time" is the first DM video to be directed by Anton Corbijn, and was the start of a relationship with him and the band which still lasts to this day. ''Music for the Masses'' is the sixth studio album by English electronic music band Depeche Mode, released on 28 September 1987 by Mute Records. The album was supported by the Music for the Masses Tour, which launched their fame in the US when they performed at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The tour led to the creation and filming of the documentary/live album titled '' 101''. This saw the band using heavy amounts of sampling, much like they did in their previous album ''Black Celebration''. Considered one of the band's best albums, ''Music for the Masses'' was included in the book ''1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die''. New Wave Music
