Montana, Bulgaria
Montana ( bg, Монтана ) is a town in northwestern Bulgaria. It is the administrative centre of the Montana Province. On the 2021 census, it had a population of 36,455. Names When the town was first settled by Slavs it was known as Kutlovitsa; later in Ottoman Turkish as Kutlofça. The town was renamed Ferdinand in 1890, receiving the benevolence of Bulgarian ''Knyaz'' Ferdinand and town status. Boxing At The 1960 Summer Olympics – Bantamweight
The men's bantamweight event was part of the boxing programme at the 1960 Summer Olympics. The weight class allowed boxers of up to 54 kilograms to compete. The competition was held from 25 August to 5 September 1960. 32 boxers from 32 nations competed. Competition format The competition was a straight single-elimination tournament, with no bronze medal match (two bronze medals were awarded, one to each semifinal loser). There were 33 boxers entered, but the boxer from the Republic of China withdrew at the last minute, too late to change the bracket; therefore, one bout was conducted in the round of 64 and one boxer received a bye in the round of 32. The 1960 Summer Olympics ( it, Giochi Olimpici estivi del 1960), officially known as the Games of the XVII Olympiad ( it, Giochi della XVII Olimpiade) and commonly known as Rome 1960 ( it, Roma 1960), were an international multi-sport event held from 25 August to 11 September 1960 in Rome, Italy. Rome had previously been awarded the administration of the 1908 Summer Olympics, but following the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, the city had no choice but to decline and pass the honour to London. The Soviet Union won the most gold and overall medals at the 1960 Games. Jerry Armstrong
Jerry Lee Armstrong (June 26, 1936 – May 7, 2023) was an American amateur boxer. He competed in the bantamweight division at the 1960 Summer Olympics and finished in fifth place. Armstrong served with the U.S. Army and then graduated from Idaho State College. He later worked for 29 years at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, retiring in 1998 as personnel director. In the meantime he also refereed about 100 professional boxing matches. In 1980 he was inducted to the Idaho State University Hall of Fame. Armstrong died of Alzheimer's disease in Garden City, Idaho Garden City is a city in Ada County, Idaho. The population was 10,972 at the time of the 2010 census.
