Storstrøm County
Storstrøms Amt (English ''Storstrøm County'') is a former county (Danish: ''amt'') on the islands of Zealand (''Sjælland''), Møn, Falster, Lolland and some minor islands in southeast Denmark. The county was formed on 1 April 1970, comprising the former counties of Maribo and Præstø. The county was abolished effective January 1, 2007, when it merged into Region Sjælland (i.e. ''Region Zealand''). The county was a somewhat artificial construction as the islands of Lolland and Falster did not traditionally share any institutions with Zealand, but rather with Funen. Locally, the adjectives ''nordenstrøms'' and ''søndenstrøms'', i.e. "north" and "south of the Stream" were used to designate the Zealand-Møn and Lolland-Falster parts respectively, as they were separated by the strait Storstrømmen ("The Great Stream") from which the county derived its name. Holmegaard
Until 1 January 2007, Holmegaard was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Storstrøm County in the southern part of the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 66 km2, and had a total population of 7,442 (2005). Its last mayor was Søren Dysted, a member of the Social Democrats (''Socialdemokraterne'') political party. The main town and the site of its municipal council was the town of Fensmark. The municipality was created in 1966 when the following parishes were combined: Fensmark-Rislev Parish and Holme-Olstrup Parish. As the result of ("Municipality Reform") in 1970, Toksværd Parish was incorporated into Holmegaard municipality, and Rislev Parish was incorporated into Næstved municipality. Fladså
Fladså was a municipality (Danish, '' kommune'') in Storstrøm County in south Denmark. The municipality covered an area of 133 km², and had a total population of 7,581 (2005). Its last mayor was Hans R. Hansen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party. The seat of its municipal council was at . Neighboring municipalities were Rønnede to the east, Holmegaard to the north, Næstved to the west, and Præstø and Vordingborg to the south. Fakse Bay (''Fakse Bugt'') made up part of the municipality's eastern border, and Karrebæksminde Bay (''Karrebæksminde Bugt'' made up part of the municipality's western border. Fakse
Faxe or Fakse is a town on the island of Zealand in eastern Denmark. It is located in Faxe Municipality in Region Zealand. The town is most known for the Faxe Brewery, Royal Unibrew, a relatively large brewery producing a range of beer and soft drinks, soda, energy drinks, Faxe Kondi and many more and so on. On the edge of town lies a big limestone quarry (1 km2), Faxe Quarry owned by Faxe Kalk, The Faxe Quarry have had their own narrow track railway but it was shut down many years ago owned by Faxe Kalk. Farø Bridges
The Farø Bridges ( da, Farøbroerne, ) are two road bridges that connect the islands of Falster and Zealand in Denmark by way of the small island of Farø which is approximately mid-way across the Storstrømmen sound. A smaller bridge from Farø provides access to Bogø and thence to the island of Møn. History The Farø Bridges were opened by Queen Margrethe II on 4 June 1985. They were built because of the increasing congestion problems on the old Storstrøm Bridge from 1937. Design The high (south) bridge crosses Storstrømmen between Falster and Farø. It is a cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is 1,726 metres long, the longest span is 290 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 26 metres strung up on 95.14 meters high suspension towers, which was finished in 1984.
