Melhus is a municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is part of the Gauldalen region. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Melhus. Other villages include Gåsbakken, Hovin, Korsvegen, Kvål, Ler, Lundamo, Storsand, and Øysand. Agriculture is important in Melhus, and the extensive lowland areas in the almost flat valley surrounding the Gaula River are dominated by grain fields. Melhus Church ( no, Melhus kirke), also known as "the Gauldal Cathedral", is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Melhus municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Storsand, about south of the village of Melhus. It is the church for the Melhus parish which is part of the Gauldal prosti ( deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The gray, stone church was built in a cruciform design in 1892 using plans drawn up by the architect Carl Julius Bergstrøm. The church seats about 500 people. The churchyard contains a cemetery. Gaula (Trøndelag)
The Gaula is a river that flows through the Gauldal valley in Trøndelag county, Norway. The long river is the largest in Central Norway. The river begins in Holtålen municipality near the mountain Kjølifjellet. It then flows through the municipalities of Holtålen, Midtre Gauldal, and Melhus before emptying into Trondheimsfjord near Leinstrand on the border between the municipalities of Trondheim and Melhus. The Dovre Line ( no, Dovrebanen) is a Norwegian railway line with three slightly different lines which all lead to the historic city of Trondheim. European Route E06
European route E6 ( no, Europavei 6, sv, Europaväg 6, or simply E6) is the main north-south thoroughfare through Norway as well as the west coast of Sweden. It is long and runs from the southern tip of Sweden at Trelleborg, into Norway and through almost all of the country north to the Arctic Circle and Nordkapp. The route ends in Kirkenes close to the Russian border. Route From south to north, E6 runs through Trelleborg, Malmö, Helsingborg, Halmstad, Gothenburg, Svinesund in Sweden, before crossing the border at the Svinesund Bridge into Norway. Vassfjellet
Vassfjellet is a mountain on the border of the municipalities of Melhus and Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The eastern side of the mountain hosts a ski resort, Vassfjellet Skisenter. The tall mountain lies about southeast of the village of Melhus. At the top there is a radio and television transmitting tower, which extends above the top of the tall mountain. A road leading to the top has been built for maintenance access to the tower. This road starts in the village of Kvål in Melhus, but is closed to public vehicle access. It is however an excellent route for hiking. The Vassfjell Chapel is located on the northeast side of the mountain in Klæbu.
