Stormcrowfleet
''Stormcrowfleet'' is the debut album by the Finnish funeral doom metal band Skepticism. It is one of the most important releases of the genre, and is considered a classic within it. Background The band was founded in 1991, and was awarded a record deal with American independent label Red Stream, Inc. in 1993 after the release of their demo tape ''Aeothe Kaear''. The band subsequently recorded three new pieces and rearranged three songs from the demo. As the decisive moment in their genesis, keyboardist Eero Pöyry recalled his change from guitar to keyboard along with the consideration of how the instrument should be integrated into the sound of the band from then on. Following the idea of playing the keyboard as a synthetic organ, drummer Lasse Pelkonen also adapted his equipment and playing style. History Starting out with a death metal sound on their first 7", Skepticism soon began to evolve into a more distinctive style, a combination of slow doom metal and death metal with prolific use of keyboards, especially using an organ sound. The keyboards intend to create a depressive sound, rather than the gothic sound that many metal bands using keyboards tend to focus on. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Peaceville Records
Peaceville Records is a British independent heavy metal record label. The label was founded by Paul "Hammy" Halmshaw (of the bands Instigators and Civilised Society) in Dewsbury, England in 1987, who was also a one-time drummer of Sore Throat. Originally a tape label releasing anarcho punk, the releases moved towards metal through crust punk and similar forms of metal-influenced English hardcore punk. Halmshaw started running the label full-time in 1988, although the original tape label incarnation was founded in 1981 as a vehicle for releasing Instigators demo cassettes. The label is therefore known for the connection between doom metal and the 1980s English crust punk scene.
