Storks (sports Club)
Storks is a baseball and softball team based in The Hague, The Netherlands. Storks' baseball team plays in the Honkbal Heren Hoofdklasse, the top level of baseball in the Netherlands. The club has also won three consecutive Dutch softball titles, winning the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Holland Series. History The club was founded with 12 members on one team in 1952. By 1956, the club was fielding 3 men's baseball teams and that year added its first woman's softball team. From 1970 to 1974, Wim Remmerswaal played for the Storks. In 1975, the team moved to its current field at the Kijkduincomplex. Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each, taking turns batting and fielding. The game occurs over the course of several plays, with each play generally beginning when a player on the fielding team, called the pitcher, throws a ball that a player on the batting team, called the batter, tries to hit with a bat. The objective of the offensive team (batting team) is to hit the ball into the field of play, away from the other team's players, allowing its players to run the bases, having them advance counter-clockwise around four bases to score what are called " runs". The game was first created in 1887 in Chicago by George Hancock. There are two rule sets for softball generally: ''slow pitch softball'' and ''fastpitch''. Slow pitch softball is commonly played recreationally, while women's fastpitch softball is a Summer Olympic sport and is played professionally. Depending on the variety being played and the age and gender of the players, the particulars of field and equipment vary. Honkbal Hoofdklasse
The Honkbal Hoofdklasse (Dutch for ''Major League Baseball'') is the highest level of professional baseball in the Netherlands. It is an eight-team league that plays a 42-game schedule and is overseen by the Royal Netherlands Baseball and Softball Federation (KNBSB). Games are played principally on weekends. The season runs from April to September and is followed by the playoffs among the four best teams, which culminates in the Holland Series. Both of the playoff rounds are best-of-five. The league follows a promotion and relegation system with the Eerste klasse so that the composition of both levels changes from year to year. Many of the official team nicknames contain the name of the club's corporate sponsor. The two best teams participate in the European Cup. 2006 Holland Series In Men's Softball
The 2006 Holland Series in men's softball, were held from September 16 to September 24, 2006, between the two Dutch play-off winners Kokolishi and Screenhouse Storks. The first team to win 3 games in the best-of-five-games series, became be Duch champions. Storks proved to be the better team by winning three out of four matches, resulting in a 3–1 series and winning their third consecutive title. Results Matchday 1: Kokolishi - Screenhouse Storks 2-6, 3-0 Defending champions Storks won the Holland Series opener beating Kokolishi 6–2. In the second match held on the same day Kokolishi took a 3–0 lead. This already happened in the very first inning, with Jeanric Ursula hitting a home run. Pitcher Ed Hoet then hit next batter Irvin Redan, resulting in commotion from the bench. A few minutes later Storks filed a protest stating it felt threatened before leaving the pitch.
