Alfred Holt Stone
Alfred Holt Stone (October 16, 1870 – May 11, 1955) was an American planter, writer, politician, and tax commissioner for the State of Mississippi. Stone was one of the oldest officeholders in Mississippi, and was noted for his racist views toward African-Americans. Early life and career Stone was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He attended the University of Mississippi, where he received an LL.D. in 1891, and an LL.B. in 1916. While there, he was a member of the fraternity of Delta Psi (also known as St. Anthony Hall). In 1928, he received an honorary LL.D. from Southwestern at Memphis. Stone worked as a lawyer from 1893 to 1932. From 1912 to 1913, he was President of the Mississippi Historical Society, and from 1916 to 1923, he served in the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing Washington County. Andrew Stone (4 February 1703 – 17 December 1773) was a significant figure in the British royal circle in the 18th century and a Member of Parliament. Biography Stone was the eldest son of Andrew Stone, a London goldsmith and one of the founders of Martins Bank, and was educated at Westminster School and Christ Church, Oxford. His brother was George Stone, Primate of All Ireland. He became private secretary to the Duke of Newcastle in 1732, and was for many years on the most intimate and confidential terms both with the Duke and with his brother Henry Pelham. He was appointed Under-secretary of State in 1734, joint secretary to the Lords Justices in 1744, and was a Commissioner of Trade and Plantations from 1749 to 1761. He attended high school at Green Bay Preble High School where he played soccer as a student athlete under head coach Chris Becker. Amy Wentworth Stone (1876-1938) was an American writer known for being the author of ''P-Penny and His Little Red Cart'' as well as other books for children. Early life and education Stone was born in Danvers, Massachusetts on January 25, 1876 to Philip Henry and Harriet Lucetta (Daniell) Wentworth. She grew up at an estate called Locust Lawn. She received an A.B. from Vassar College in 1898 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, writing her senior thesis on "The Problem of the Delinquent".
