Stone (TV Series)
''Stone'' is an American police drama that aired on ABC on Monday nights from January 14 until March 17, 1980. The series was a Stephen J. Cannell Productions and Gerry Productions, Inc. in association with Universal Television (it was Cannell's last series before he went independent) and was created by Cannell, Richard Levinson and William Link. Premise The series focused on Det Sgt. Daniel Stone, a police officer who wrote best-selling novels on police work based on his own experiences (similar to real-life cop-turned-writer Joseph Wambaugh). His superior Chief Paulton, his one-time mentor, was unhappy with Stone's writing but was unable to stop him. The role of Det. Buck Rogers was played by series star Dennis Weaver's son Robby Weaver. Martin Patterson Hingle (July 19, 1924 – January 3, 2009) was an American character actor who appeared in stage productions and in hundreds of television shows and feature films. His first film was ''On the Waterfront'' in 1954. He often played tough authority figures. Hingle was a close friend of Clint Eastwood and appeared in the Eastwood films ''Hang 'em High'', '' The Gauntlet'', and '' Sudden Impact''. He also portrayed Jim Gordon in the ''Batman'' film franchise from 1989 to 1997. Early life Hingle was born in Miami, Florida (some sources say Denver, Colorado), the son of Marvin Louise (née Patterson), a schoolteacher and musician, and Clarence Martin Hingle, a building contractor. Joseph Aloysius Wambaugh, Jr. (born January 22, 1937), is a best-selling American writer known for his fictional and nonfictional accounts of police work in the United States. Several of his early novels were set in Los Angeles and its surroundings and featured Los Angeles police officers as protagonists. He has been nominated for four Edgar Awards (winning three), and was named a Grand Master by the Mystery Writers of America.
