Stoke Gabriel & Torbay Police Football Club is a football club based in Stoke Gabriel, Devon, established in the early 1900s as Stoke Gabriel AFC. In June 2021, the club merged with newly promoted Devon League club, Torbay Police FC, administrated by police officers and staff of the Devon & Cornwall Police, originally founded in 1969. The newly merged club, nicknamed "The Bees", competes in the and currently plays at the G.J. Churchward Memorial Ground. The club has two senior teams and multiple youth teams. History Stoke Gabriel Formed in the early 1900s, Stoke Gabriel Football Club had relied on the generosity of local farmers to provide a ground during which the changing rooms remained in the village where both the school room and an old army hut were utilised. Stoke Gabriel
Stoke Gabriel is a village and parish in Devon, England, situated on a creek of the River Dart. The village is a popular tourist destination in the South Hams and is famous for its mill pond and crab fishing (known colloquially as ''crabbing''). It is equidistant from Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes, and has a population of approximately 1,200, reducing slightly to 1,107 at the 2011 census, of which, uniquely, The village is the major part of the electoral ward of East Dart. The ward population at the abovementioned census was 1,877. Fisherman probably first came to Stoke Gabriel to fish salmon and gain access to the River Dart. The village has an approximately 1,000-year-old yew tree in the churchyard of The Church of St Mary and St Gabriel, a church which has stood since Norman times. Richard Hancox
Richard Hancox (born 4 October 1968) is an English former professional footballer. He has held various roles at Torquay United in his career. Career Hancox was born in Stourbridge and first joined Exeter city in 1985, he was not offered a contract and in 1988 he joined Halesowen town playing regularly under the management of the great Paddy Page, after 2 seasons he left to join Cheltenham town, an injury forced Hancox to move to on to Stourport swifts where he scored more than fifty goals in two and a half seasons. In March 1993 from Hancox was offered a 2-year contract by then manager Neil Warnock at Torquay United Warnock played Hancox as a wide midfielder to create more attacking options in home games, the plan worked and Torquay survived. South West Peninsula League
The South West Peninsula League (SWPL) is a football competition in England, which was formed in 2007 from the merger of the Devon County League and the South Western League. The league is restricted to clubs based in Cornwall, Devon and West Dorset. The league consists of two Premier Divisions (East and West), which are ranked at Step 6 in the National League System. Until 2019–20, there was a single Premier Division at Step 6, and two divisions at Step 7 (Division One West and Division One East). Subject to applying, receiving the required ground grading and finishing high enough in the league table, one club from each Premier Division can be promoted to the Western League Premier Division each season.
