Stockton-on-the-Forest
Stockton-on-the-Forest is a village and civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England. History The village is mentioned in the ''Domesday Book'' as ''Stocthun'' in the ''Bulford hundred''. After the Norman invasion the land was shared between '' Count Alan (of Brittany)'' and '' Canons of York (St Peter)''. The village is home to ''Stockton Hall'', once owned by Hall Plumer, esq in 1820 and built as a country house. It is now a secure unit for mentally ill patients operated by the Priory Group. The hall is a brick built three-storey building with a five-bay frontage and is grade II listed. It was acquired by barrister George Lloyd of Leeds, from whom it passed to his daughter Miss Alicia Maria Lloyd. She left it in 1892 to her nephew George William Lloyd. City Of York
The City of York is a unitary authority area with city status in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. The district's main settlement is York, and it extends to the surrounding area including the town of Haxby and the villages of Earswick, Upper Poppleton, Nether Poppleton, Copmanthorpe, Bishopthorpe, Dunnington, Stockton on the Forest, Rufforth, Askham Bryan and Askham Richard, among other villages and hamlets. A64 Road
The A64 is a major road in North and West Yorkshire, England, which links Leeds, York and Scarborough. The A64 starts as the A64(M) ring road motorway in Leeds, then towards York it becomes a high-quality dual carriageway until it is east of York, where it becomes a single carriageway for most of its route to Scarborough. The road approximates a section of the old Roman road running from Chester to Bridlington, intersecting Ermine Street – the Old North Road – at York. Murton, York
Murton is a small village and a civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England that is located on the outskirts of York. To the west there is the A64 and the village of Osbaldwick, to the south the A166 road to Bridlington, to the north the village of Stockton-on-the-Forest, and to the east the villages of Holtby and Warthill. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 423, increasing to 668 in the 2011 Census. The village was historically part of the North Riding of Yorkshire until 1974. It was then a part of the district of Ryedale in North Yorkshire from 1974 until 1996. Since 1996 it has been part of the City of York unitary authority. Strensall
Strensall is a village in the Strensall with Towthorpe civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England, on the River Foss north of York and north-east of Haxby. From the 2011 Census, the civil parish of Strensall with Towthorpe and had a population of 6,047. It covers an area of 2,908 acres. Ryedale
Ryedale is a non-metropolitan district in North Yorkshire, England. It is in the Vale of Pickering, a low-lying flat area of land drained by the River Derwent. The Vale's landscape is rural with scattered villages and towns. It has been inhabited continuously from the Mesolithic period. The economy is largely agricultural with light industry and tourism playing an increasing role. Towns include Helmsley, Kirkbymoorside, Malton, Norton-on-Derwent, and Pickering. Holtby is a small village and civil parish in the unitary authority of the City of York in North Yorkshire, England. The population at the 2011 Census was 166. It lies close to the A166 about east of York. History The village is mentioned in the ''Domesday Book'' as ''Boltebi'' in the ''Bulford'' hundred in the possession of the King. Sand Hutton
Sand Hutton is a village and civil parish which forms the larger part of the Claxton and Sand Hutton grouped parish council, in the Ryedale district of North Yorkshire, England, about north-east of York. History The village is mentioned in the ''Domesday Book'' as ''Hottune'' in the ''Bulford hundred''. Before the Norman invasion the manor was shared between ''Sprot'' and ''Gospatric, son of Arnketil''. Afterwards they were split between the Crown and ''Hugh, son Baldric'' who installed ''Wulfbert of Hutton'' as lord of the manor. The latter part of the manor passed eventually to the Mowbray family until 1604 when the title became unused. Dunnington is a village and civil parish in the City of York and ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish was 3,230 at the 2011 Census. The village is approximately east from York city centre. The village was historically part of the East Riding of Yorkshire until 1974.
