Stockport County Football Club are a professional association football, football club in Stockport, England, who compete in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1883 as Heaton Norris Rovers, they were renamed Stockport County in 1890 after the County Borough of Stockport. The team have played in blue and white Kit (association football), kits since 1914; their original colours were red and white. The club are nicknamed "The Hatters" after the town's former hat-making industry. Stockport have played at Edgeley Park since 1902. Stockport first joined the English Football League, Football League in 1900 but had to seek Re-election (Football League), re-election in 1904. The club were not re-elected and spent one season outside the competition before they returned for the 1905–06 Football League, 1905–06 season. Edgeley Park
Edgeley Park is a football stadium in Edgeley, Stockport, England. Built for rugby league club Stockport RFC in 1891, by 1903, the rugby club was defunct and Stockport County Football Club moved in. Edgeley Park is an all-seater stadium holding 10,900 spectators. Stockport County shared it with Sale Sharks rugby union club between 2003 and 2012. In 2015, Stockport Council purchased the stadium for around £2 million, leasing it back to the football club, in order to prevent it from being demolished and redeveloped. History The land Edgeley Park is built on was originally donated to Stockport by the Sykes Family (Owners of Sykes Bleaching Company) in the late 1800s, for sporting use. The stadium was built in 1891 for rugby league club Stockport RFC.
