Stockholm–Roslagens Järnvägar
Stockholm–Roslagens Järnvägar (SRJ) was a private railway company in Sweden 1885–1951, running a vast network of narrow gauge railways in Roslagen north of Stockholm. The company was taken over by Swedish State Railways in 1951, formally combined into Swedish State Railways in 1959. Parts of the SRJ network closest to Stockholm is now used for commuter traffic and called Roslagsbanan, owned by Storstockholms lokaltrafik. The line between Hargshamn and Dannemora has been converted to standard gauge and made part of the national, government owned network. Another part close to Uppsala is used as a heritage railway and called Upsala-Lenna Jernväg. All other parts are now closed. Djursholms Ösby is a branch railway station on Roslagsbanan, a suburban commuter railway north of Stockholm in Sweden. It serves Ösby in Djursholm in Danderyd Municipality and is 6.6 km from Stockholm East Station. Gimo, Sweden
Gimo () is a small town situated in Östhammar Municipality, Uppsala County, Sweden with 2,765 inhabitants in 2017. The town is located about 20 km west of the Baltic Sea coast and 50 km north of Uppsala. Gimo is best known for the production plant of Sandvik Coromant with 1,500 employees (2019). History Little is known about the early history of Gimo. A rune stone from the 10th century is located near the reservoir Gimo Damm. The first mention of the place was in the years 1375–1376 when it was described as the village "Gimmu". Stocksund Railway Station
Stocksund railway station, ''Stocksunds station'', is a railway station at Roslagsbanan, serving Stocksund in Danderyd Municipality, a bit north of Stockholm. Stocksund station is now a simple railway stop, where only the trains on the way between Stockholm East Station and Näsbypark stops. It is situated 4.6 km from Stockholm East Station. History The original Stocksund station was situated some hundred metres to the south east of the present one and was opened shortly after the inauguration of Roslagsbanan. The station building there was built in 1904. Sigge Cronstedt was the architect for this and other station buildings along Roslagsbanan. Gauge Conversion
Gauge conversion is the changing of one railway track gauge (the distance between the running rails) to another. Sleepers If tracks are converted to a narrower gauge, the existing sleepers (ties) may be used. However, replacement is required if the conversion is to a wider gauge. Some sleepers may be long enough to accommodate the fittings of both existing and alternative gauges. Wooden sleepers are suitable for conversion because they can be drilled for the repositioned rail spikes. Being difficult to drill, concrete sleepers are less suitable for conversion. Dannemora is an old mining town and a locality situated in Östhammar Municipality, Uppsala County, Sweden. It had 213 inhabitants in 2010. Dannemora mine Dannemora is the location of an important iron ore mine, the Dannemora mine, which formed the basis of the iron industry in Uppland. It provided the raw material for about 20 finery forges that produced bar iron for export. In the early mid-19th century, numerous workers from this town emigrated to the United States, with some settling in upstate New York at the site of other iron mines.
