Stockholm Cup International
The Stockholm Cup International is a Conditions races, Group 3 Flat racing, flat Horse racing, horse race in Sweden open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Bro Park Racecourse, Bro Park over a distance of 2,400 metres (about 1½ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in September. History The event was originally held at Ulriksdal dirt course, Ulriksdal as the Grand Prix. It was established in 1937, and was initially contested over 1,800 metres. The race became known as the Stockholm-Löpning in 1951. Its prize money was increased significantly in 1955, and by this time its distance was 2,400 metres. It was renamed the Stockholm Cup in 1956. There was no running from 1960 to 1962, and the race was transferred to Täby Racecourse, Täby in 1963. Its prize was less than it had been previously, but it was raised again in 1975. Terje Dahl
Terje Dahl (25 November 1935 – 10 February 2017) was a Norwegian jockey and horse trainer who competed from the 1950s. Career Dahl won about 300 races in European countries and achieved 13 championnats (most wins during a season) in steeplechase racing in Norway, Denmark and Sweden. As horse trainer he achieved ten championnats at Øvrevoll between 1974 and 1986. His horses recorded 948 victories at Øvrevoll. His most successful horse was Noble Dancer, which he trained for two seasons, and is regarded the all-time best Thoroughbred horse in Norway. Noble Dancer's victories at Øvrevoll included Oslo Cup 1975 and 1976, and other races. The horse was then moved to US, where it was trained by Thomas Joseph Kelly, and competed with success in top level races. Fran Berry
Francis Martin Berry (born 2 January 1981) in County Kildare is an Irish jockey who competed principally in Flat racing. Berry's father, Frank Berry, was Irish jump racing champion jockey ten times, and saddled Fran's first winner on Mayasta at Sligo Racecourse in April 1997. Berry began his career as a National Hunt jockey, winning the Coral Cup at Cheltenham in 1999 but went on to concentrate on Flat racing. He was employed as second jockey at John Oxx's stable from 2002 to 2009 and took over as leading jockey for Oxx in 2010. From 2011 onwards he rode for Jessica Harrington and John Kiely. In 2016, he moved to Britain to become stable jockey for Ralph Beckett, an association which lasted until Berry left ‘by mutual consent’ when he was relieved of the role in June 2017. Alan Swinbank
Alan Swinbank (c.1945 – 17 May 2017) was a British racehorse trainer whose horses competed in both Flat racing and National Hunt racing. Swinbank was based at racing stables in Melsonby, North Yorkshire. He trained the winners of more than 800 races in a career lasting from 1982 until his death, and gained his most notable success with Collier Hill. He died suddenly on 17 May 2017, aged 72. Dean McKeown
Dean Russell McKeown (born 5 February 1960) is a retired British Thoroughbred horse racing jockey. He embarked on his professional career as a teenager, earning his first win in 1977. While never a Champion jockey, McKeown has won a number of important Conditions races in the United Kingdom including three editions of the Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket Racecourse. He also won the Ebor Handicap (2002) and Chester Cup (2003) aboard Hugs Dancer then in the fall of 2004 became the regular jockey for trainer Alan Swinbank where he became an integral part of the racing success of Collier Hill. Collier Hill
Collier Hill (foaled 26 March 1998) is a British Thoroughbred racehorse. He was bred by the prominent American sportsman George W. Strawbridge, Jr. who was involved in both steeplechase and flat racing and who raced in Europe and the United States. Background Out of the mare Polar Queen, a granddaughter of Danzig, Collier Hill was sired by the 1992 Epsom Derby winner, Dr Devious. He was an unbroken three-year-old when Melsonby trainer Alan Swinbank purchased him at the 2001 Ascot Bloodstock Sales for £5,500. Swinbank sold a half-interest in the horse to Russell Hall and then the remaining half to Ashley Young. Renamed from Dr Freeze to Collier Hill after a hill on a farm owned by Hall, the horse suffered from a number of physical ailments and his race conditioning was a slow process. Eddie Ahern (born 6 December 1977) is an Irish professional jockey, currently banned from racing for ten years by the British Horseracing Authority on charges of corruption. He was champion apprentice in Ireland in 1997. Career Ahern had his first ride in his native Ireland in 1994. From then until 2001, he raced mainly in Ireland, his best season being 2000 when he picked up 46 wins. Thereafter, he has mainly ridden in the UK from a base in Newmarket (although his first ride in the UK had been as far back as 1998). His career peak to date came in 2006 when he rode 140 winners. Anne Elizabeth Cowdrey, 14th Lady Herries of Terregles, Baroness Cowdrey of Tonbridge (''née'' Fitzalan-Howard; 12 June 1938 – 23 November 2014) was a British racehorse trainer and peeress. Early life and family Born Lady Anne Fitzalan-Howard on 12 June 1938, she was the eldest of four daughters of Bernard Fitzalan-Howard, 16th Duke of Norfolk and The Hon. Lavinia Strutt. Ray Cochrane
Ray Cochrane (born 18 June 1957 in Banbridge, County Down, Northern Ireland) is a retired Northern Irish horse racing jockey and current sports agent. Cochrane was the winning jockey in three of the five British Classic Races: the 1000 Guineas Stakes and Epsom Oaks on Midway Lady, trained by Ben Hanbury in 1986, and the Epsom Derby on Kahyasi for his retained stable of Luca Cumani in 1988. Cochrane was also second in the 2000 Guineas Stakes on Chief Singer in 1984 and won the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket and Sussex Stakes at Goodwood on the same horse. John Hills (c. 1960 – 1 June 2014) was a British horse trainer specializing in Flat racing. Hills was the son of Barry Hills and brother of jockeys Michael Hills and Richard Hills.
