Stirling Macedonia Football Club (formerly West Perth Macedonia, Stirling Lions) is an Australian football club based in Perth, Western Australia, who are competing in 2023 in the National Premier Leagues Western Australia. History Early history Stirling Macedonia has evolved with the history of the Macedonian Australian community of Western Australia. The club has been through a number of name changes and directions in its history. Initially formed as East Perth Macedonia in 1958, the club dissolved in 1967, but in 1969 the Macedonian community put together the necessary funds to revive the club. In 1970, the club was revived as West Perth Macedonia. The club endured highs and lows in the 1970s and early 1980s, with its biggest success coming when they won the League Title in its third year of being in the State League. Macedonia Park, Perth
Macedonia Park is a multi-use stadium in Perth, Western Australia. It is mainly used for soccer and is the home ground for Stirling Macedonia. The stadium has a capacity of 5,000 people, however capacity will be capped at 4,500 for the 2022–23 A-League season. The ground was developed by the Macedonian Community of Western Australia in the mid-1980s after receiving federal government grants from the Hawke government. The stadium was built in conjunction with adjoining community facilities. Macedonia Park was officially opened in 1986, with Stirling Macedonia hosting Adelaide City in the first round of the 1986 NSL Cup in front of a crowd of 5,000. In 1994, Perth Kangaroos IFC played matches during the first half of the 1994 FAS Premier League season at Macedonia Park, before financial difficulties and poor crowds forced the club to move to Dorrien Gardens. Balcatta Etna Football Club is an Australian semi-professional soccer club based in Balcatta, Perth, Western Australia. They compete in the National Premier Leagues Western Australia. History In the first year, 1978, playing at the new home ground, Reader Reserve in Hector St, Mt Yokine. Etna acquired fifth position on the ladder. In the second year, 1979, Etna finished seventh position on the ladder. In 2013 the club changed its name from Balcatta Soccer Club to Balcatta FC. On 30th November 2021, the club re-branded and officially became Balcatta Etna FC. Colours and Badge The major colours for Balcatta Etna are blue and red. Lewis Italiano
Lewis Italiano (born 10 December 1990) is an Australian professional goalkeeper. Club career Italiano played his junior football at Stirling Lions and later Balcatta. He moved to Inglewood United and, aged 18, gained his league debut in May 2008 against Floreat Athena. Despite an impressive start with the club, first team opportunities were scarce across three seasons with Inglewood. Italiano returned to Balcatta in 2011 and quickly became the clubs' first choice goalkeeper. In 22 league appearances he tallied up eight clean sheets to play a key role in Balcatta lifting their first Premier League title. A summer deal with A-League club Perth Glory followed, however, Italiano's involvement throughout the 2011–12 campaign was restricted to watching from the bench. David Micevski
David Micevski (born 25 February 1986) is an Australian footballer who has played for Stirling Lions. Club career He was identified by former Perth Glory technical manager, Mich d'Avray as one of the brightest young prospects in the WA State League. He played an instrumental part of Perth Soccer Club's victorious league and cup double winning team in 2005. The attack-minded midfielder signed on loan to Perth Glory for the tail end of the 2005/2006 A-League season, mainly due to injuries to the club's first team players. The club signed him on a full term contract before the start of the 2006/2007 season and his performances for the club has led to his call up to the Olyroos Australian national under 23 side. Robert Zabica
Robert Zabica (born 9 April 1964 in Spearwood, Western Australia) is an Australian former goalkeeper. Zabica represented the Australian national team 28 times in 'A' international matches and also represented Western Australia. Playing career Zabica started his career with Cockburn City before joining Adelaide City for seven seasons, winning National Soccer League (NSL) championships in 1992 and 1994. He played for Australia in the qualifiers for the 1994 FIFA World Cup finals, losing narrowly to Argentina. A nagging knee injury forced his international retirement, but he made a comeback in 1995 with Dalmatinac with whom he won the D'Orsogna Cup. Troy Halpin
Troy Michael Halpin (born 17 August 1973) is an Australian footballer and Sports/Football Development coach at Barker College and St Pius X Chatswood. Career He is one of the great talents Australian football has produced in the last two decades and was one of the most skillful players plying their trade in the now-defunct National Soccer League. Halpin represented many NSL clubs and won the NSL championship with Sydney Olympic and Perth Glory. He also played with Newcastle United and at Perth Glory with his brother Scott Halpin. Hayden James Doyle (born 25 February 1989 in Adelaide, Australia) is an Australian footballer. Career Doyle grew up playing junior football in Bunbury before moving to England aged 16 to join Stoke City's youth academy. After not managing to break into the first team at Stoke, Doyle joined Greek Third Division side Niki Volos. On 20 June 2008, Doyle returned to Australia to join Perth Glory, the club he had supported since he was a young boy. National Soccer League
The National Soccer League (NSL) was the top-level soccer league in Australia, run by Soccer Australia and later the Australian Soccer Association. The NSL, the A-League's predecessor, spanned 28 seasons from its inception in 1977 until its demise in 2004, when it was succeeded by the A-League competition run by Football Federation Australia, the successor to the Australian Soccer Association. A-League Men (known as the Isuzu UTE A-League for sponsorship reasons) is the highest-level professional men's soccer league in Australia and New Zealand. At the top of the Australian league system, it is the country's premier men's competition for the sport. Nick Ward (born 24 March 1985) is an Australian football (soccer) player, who plays as a midfielder for Pascoe Vale FC in the National Premier League.
