Stingray Point is a small community on the Chesapeake Bay near the village of Deltaville, Virginia, Deltaville in Middlesex County, Virginia. It is located at the eastern terminus of State Route 33 (Virginia), State Route 33. It is populated by fewer than 250 full-time residents; however, during summer months that population surges as tourists and vacationers flock to Deltaville for recreation on the bay. Most of the houses on Stingray Point are cottages and weekend homes. Stingray Point is also home to Stingray Point Marina, one of the Deltaville area's many marinas. Stingray Point gets its name from the 17th century when Captain John Smith of Jamestown, John Smith was stung while fishing with his men off a shoal near the point by Cownose Ray Smith was seriously injured by the sting, and even gave orders to his men as to the disposal of his body should he perish. Deltaville is a small unincorporated community and census-designated place on the eastern tip of Middlesex County in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Virginia. It is known for being a vacation spot for those looking for sailing, fishing, and other activities associated with the water. The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution on October 2, 2012 supporting the efforts of the official naming, " Deltaville, The Boating Capital of the Chesapeake Bay." Middlesex County is a county located on the Middle Peninsula in the U.S. state of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 10,625. Its county seat is Saluda. State Route 33 (SR 33) is a primary state highway in the U.S. state of Virginia. The state highway runs from U.S. Route 33 and US 250 in Richmond, Virginia east to Chesapeake Boulevard in Stingray Point.
