"Sticks and Stones" is an English-language children's rhyme. The rhyme is used as a defense against name-calling and verbal bullying, intended to increase resiliency, avoid physical retaliation, and/or to remain calm and indifferent. The full rhyme is usually a variant of: Sticks and stones may break my bones But words shall never hurt me. The first three words of the rhyme are an example of an irreversible binomial. In popular music, interpolation (also called a replayed sample) refers to using a melody—or portions of a melody (often with modified lyrics)—from a previously recorded song but re-recording the melody instead of sampling it. The Pierces are a Los Angeles-based band consisting of sisters Allison and Catherine Pierce.
