Stewart Royal Commission
The Royal Commission of Inquiry into Drug Trafficking (1981–1983), also known as the Stewart Royal Commission, was a Royal Commission set up in 1981 by the Commonwealth, Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian governments to inquire into various drug trafficking and related criminal activities of Terrance John Clark and his associates. However, the Commission would spend much of its time examining how criminals were using and abusing the passport system for criminal purposes including the fact that Clark had 5passports under different names with him when he was arrested in 1978. The Commission was headed by New South Wales Supreme Court Judge Donald Stewart. Donald Stewart (judge)
Donald Gerard Stewart (25 November 1928 – 14 July 2016) was an Australian judge, barrister, police officer, Royal Commissioner, and founding chairman of the National Crime Authority of Australia. He spent a lifetime fighting police corruption and drug trafficking and detailed many of his experiences in his memoirsRecollections of an Unreasonable Man. He attended Sydney Boys High School from 1941 to 1946. He died in 2016 at the age of 87. Terrance John Clark
Terrance John Clark (12 November 1944 – 12 August 1983), also known by the aliases Terry Sinclair, Alexander James Sinclair, Tony Bennetti, the Australian Jackal and Mr Big, was the head of the Mr Asia drug syndicate, which imported heroin into New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom in the 1970s. In fact, Clark was the 'second' head man of the syndicate and became the lead having successfully plotted the murder of Marty Johnstone, the man who became known as Mr Asia.
