Stevie White is a British comics artist who works under the pen name Stref. He has worked for '' The Beano'' and '' The Dandy'', drawing Winker Watson, Dennis the Menace and The Bash Street Kids, and had a graphic novel for mature readers, ''Milk'', published in 2009. He also draws the strip ''Raising Amy'' for PlayStation Comics and the iPhone. He also drew Chester, the Alien-chaser and Dallas Ditchwater for The Dandy in the 2000s. The Beano
''The Beano'' (formerly ''The Beano Comic'', also known as ''Beano'') is a British anthology comic magazine created by Scottish publishing company DC Thomson. Its first issue was published on 30 July 1938, and it became the world's longest-running comic issued weekly in 2018, publishing its 4000th issue in August 2019. Popular and well-known comic strips and characters include '' Dennis the Menace'', ''Minnie the Minx'', ''The Bash Street Kids'', ''Roger the Dodger'', ''Billy Whizz'', ''Lord Snooty and His Pals'', '' Ivy the Terrible'', ''General Jumbo'', ''Jonah'', and ''Biffo the Bear''. The Dandy
''The Dandy'' was a British children's comic magazine published by the Dundee based publisher DC Thomson. The first issue was printed in December 1937, making it the world's third-longest running comic, after ''Il Giornalino'' (cover dated 1 October 1924) and ''Detective Comics'' (cover dated March 1937). From August 2007 until October 2010, it was rebranded as ''Dandy Xtreme''. One of the best selling comics in the UK, along with ''The Beano'', ''The Dandy'' reached sales of two million a week in the 1950s. The final printed edition was issued on 4 December 2012, the comic's 75th anniversary, after sales slumped to 8,000 a week. On the same day, ''The Dandy'' relaunched as an online comic, The Digital Dandy, appearing on the Dandy website and in the Dandy App. The digital relaunch was not successful and the comic ended just six months later. Winker Watson
Winker Watson is a British comic strip, created by Eric Roberts, which ran in the British comic book magazine ''The Dandy'' for almost half a century. It debuted in 1961 and only terminated its run in 2007. It was revived in 2012. Concept Winker first appeared in the 1961 Dandy Book (published September 1960), and then appeared in the weekly Dandy on 1 April 1961 in issue Number 1010, and was quickly established as a character of great wit and appeal. Probably modeled on the Greyfriars stories and on Harry Wharton, Winker is a pupil of the Third Form of Greytowers Boarding School, he is known as the "wangler" of the school, constantly playing tricks and avoiding unpleasant school activities, much to the chagrin of his teacher Mr Clarence Creep (known to the boys as ''Creepy''). Dennis The Menace (UK)
''Dennis the Menace and Gnasher'' (originally titled ''Dennis the Menace'' and currently titled ''Dennis and Gnasher)'' is a long-running comic strip in the British children's comic ''The Beano'', published by DC Thomson, of Dundee, Scotland. The comic stars a boy named Dennis the Menace and his Abyssinian wire-haired tripe hound Gnasher. The strip first appeared in issue 452, dated 17 March 1951, and on sale from 12 March 1951. It is the longest-running strip in the comic. The idea and name of the character emerged when the comic's editor heard a British music hall song with the chorus "I'm Dennis the Menace from Venice". The creation of Dennis in the 1950s had sales of ''The Beano'' soar. From issue 1678 onwards (dated 14 September 1974), Dennis the Menace replaced Biffo the Bear on the front cover, and has been there ever since. The Bash Street Kids
''The Bash Street Kids'' is a comic strip in the British comic magazine ''The Beano''. It also appeared briefly in The Wizard as series of prose stories in 1955. The strip, created by Leo Baxendale as ''When the Bell Rings'', first appeared in issue 604 (dated February 1954). It became ''The Bash Street Kids'' in 1956 and has become a regular feature, appearing in every issue. Since 1961, David Sutherland has drawn about 2,100 strips. History Like many long-running UK comic strips, ''The Bash Street Kids'' is mostly frozen in the era when it began. It portrays Class 2B of the Bash Street School in Beanotown, where the teacher and headmaster wear gowns and the students sit at wood desks with inkwells. They are taught by a stereotypical "Teacher", whose wife is "Mrs Teacher". The characters were inspired by the view from the D. C.
