Steven Gray (footballer)
Steven Gray (born 17 October 1981) is a retired Irish footballer who played for Drogheda United, Derry City & Bohemians in the League of Ireland as well as Dandenong Thunder, Oakleigh Cannons (2 spells) & Melbourne Heart in Australia. Gray played as a centre back. Club career Gray played as a youth with hometown club Leixlip United, Cherry Orchard and Verona before moving to Southampton. He returned home and was captured by Drogheda United where he was voted Drogheda United Player of the Year in 2004. During his time at United Park, Gray won a League Championship medal, an FAI Cup winners medal and two Setanta Cups. He signed for Derry City on 26 November 2007, following the departure of Ken Oman from the club. Gray recorded his first goal for Derry City on 3 February 2009 with a game-winning goal in a 2–1 victory against Danish-side Esbjerg fB in a preseason friendly. Leixlip
Leixlip ( or ; , IPA: lʲeːmʲənˠˈwɾˠad̪ˠaːnʲ is a town in north-east County Kildare, Ireland. Its location on the confluence of the River Liffey and the Rye Water has marked it as a frontier town historically: on the border between the ancient kingdoms of Leinster and Brega, as an outpost of The Pale, and on Kildare's border with County Dublin. Leixlip was also a civil parish in the ancient barony of Salt North. As of 2016, the population of the town was 15,504. It is the fourth largest town in Kildare, and the 29th largest in Ireland. Name The placename comes from the Old Norse ''lax hlaup'' (Younger Futhark: ᛚᛅᚼᛋ ᚼᛚᛅᚢᛒ; ) which means "salmon leap". Leinster Senior Cup (football)
The Leinster Senior Cup is an association football cup competition organized by the Leinster Football Association. It is currently contested by LFA affiliated League of Ireland clubs, Leinster Senior League Senior Division clubs and invited teams from the various LFA affiliated junior leagues. Before the introduction of the FAI Cup, it was considered the major cup competition for clubs in what is now the Republic of Ireland. 2007 Setanta Sports Cup
The 2007 Setanta Sports Cup was the 3rd staging of the Setanta Sports Cup, a cross-border cup competition that took place between football clubs from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. The final was played at Windsor Park in Belfast, Northern Ireland on 12 May 2007, and was won by Drogheda United with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Linfield when the scores were level at 1–1 after extra time. Drogheda won the trophy for the second successive year. Shelbourne's withdrawal The draw for the 2007 Setanta Cup competition was made on 7 December 2006 with the original competing teams being the identical ones to the previous year's competition. The Setanta Sports Cup was a club football competition featuring teams from both football associations on the island of Ireland. Inaugurated in 2005, it was a cross-border competition between clubs in the League of Ireland from the Republic of Ireland and the NIFL Premiership from Northern Ireland. The FAI Cup 2005 was the 85th staging of The Football Association of Ireland Challenge Cup or FAI Cup. It officially kicked off in late April, when twenty clubs from the junior and intermediate leagues battled it out for the chance to face League of Ireland opposition in the second round. The Football Association of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup (FAI Cup), known as the Extra.ie FAI Cup for sponsorship reasons, is a knock-out association football competition contested annually by teams from the Republic of Ireland (as well as Derry City from Northern Ireland).
