Steve Warr (ice Hockey)
Steve Warr (born January 5, 1951) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He was drafted by the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League in the fifth round, 61st overall, of the 1971 NHL Entry Draft; however, he never played in that league. He played 72 regular-season games and two playoff games in the World Hockey Association with the Ottawa Nationals in the 1972–73 season and two more playoff games with the Toronto Toros The Toronto Toros were an ice hockey team based in Toronto that played in the World Hockey Association from 1973 to 1976. Defenceman (ice Hockey)
Defence or defense (in American English) in ice hockey is a player position that is primarily responsible for preventing the opposing team from scoring. They are often referred to as defencemen, D, D-men or blueliners (the latter a reference to the blue line in ice hockey which represents the boundary of the offensive zone; defencemen generally position themselves along the line to keep the puck in the zone). They were once called cover-point. In regular play, two defencemen complement three forwards and a goaltender on the ice. Exceptions include overtime during the regular season and when a team is shorthanded (i.e. has been assessed a penalty), in which two defencemen are typically joined by only two forwards and a goaltender.
